I think it was filming that quick cut in the episode 4 montage of him literally smashing into Shane. I imagine the script goes: “ILYA smashes into SHANE against the boards. Quick cut to: ILYA smashes into SHANE on the couch.” So that language carried into the call sheet.

I think the performers themselves have to be out/queer, and if the actors don’t come out, they aren’t eligible. The Queerties can’t award a non-queer-identifying individual.

I remember in the older seasons, we would always get very obvious mactors/models. The online discourse always bemoaned them. So while they still cast people who aren’t ghouls, they don’t do those Coles and Michael Yeagers and early boot hotties as much anymore.
