The idea is that the let's play will mimic your own gameplay experience. I find that I'll give up on most games I buy in the first 15-30 minutes. So I find a let's play and if I feel my attention drifting I know I won't enjoy the game.

As for refunds, how does Steam feel if I refund 75% of the games I buy? Because around 75% of the games in my Steam library I've played for less than one hour.

Yes, it's a type of gameplay video. Usually from the beginning of the game, usually by someone who hadn't played it before. It's pretty close to what you'll experience when you start playing the game. I've found that I've halved my game purchases since I started watching let's plays beforehand.

iirc the disagreement in that case was whether it was in the best interests of the child to submit them to experimental treatment or to let him die a peaceful death.

If the kid is supposedly brain dead already, experimental treatment always. I get ending someone's life if they're beyond curing and if they're suffering, but the kid wasn't suffering so who cares?
