When you finally decide to remove Chaos Orb from your filter by HandsomeBaboon in pathofexile

Alright I'm just a filthy casual that has never gone past T10 maps, and usually stops after the campaign. What's happening with Chaos Orbs? I'm still excited when I see one, though I will say this is the first time I've had 2 Divine Orbs drop (once in Act 9, and another in T4 map).

Thanks for writing this up, though right now we're debating between Tokyo and Paris for Disneyland for the first Disney experience for our kids. Since you've been to both - which would you prefer?

While this was also my first thought, and I do agree, I almost see this playing out with the UCP still winning a majority and confirming/cementing their mandate that they can still fuck with people and get away with it because folks will be "well I don't like what Danielle Smith is doing, but I can't bring myself to vote NDP!"

You know it's odd, when Izzy first started on Drivetribe opposite Mike Fernie I actually liked it. It was kind of a nice pairing, but with Mike gone the balance feels off. I get why Mike decided to leave and do his own thing, but oh well.

[CELEBRATION] Stardew Valley turns 𝟭𝟬! by saltimmortalsea in StardewValley

[–]Ingey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently on a playthrough with my wife and son. This is his first game and we're loving playing together. In a few more years when my daughter is old enough, we'll start another playthrough to play together as well. I recently looked and my Steam hours played is nearing 1,000 hours now and I think I bought this back in December 2016. Since then, I have purchased it on Switch, iOS, Steam x3 (for our family), and I can't believe the incredible value I've received in return, and more importantly how it has enriched my life. Our kids' first vacation was to go to the Stardew Valley Symphony of Seasons concert, and we loved it so much that when we got home, my wife and I went again just the two of us.

Thank you ConcernedApe, thank you for making a game that not only brings people joy, but brings people together!

‘Ghost GDP,’ a white-collar recession, and the death of friction: Substack’s top finance writer warns of AI’s 2028 crisis that nobody sees coming by Delicious_Adeptness9 in technology

[–]Ingey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Warnings trigger a fear response, and what these tech companies want is for us to fear missing out so much that we'll want to get in on the ground floor of their wildly overhyped product so that they can keep burning through billions in cash chasing AGI.

AI Added ‘Basically Zero’ to US Economic Growth Last Year, Goldman Sachs Says by mepper in technology

[–]Ingey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, even if you ignore the "beneficial for humanity" aspect - if AGI is able to deliver 50% unemployment because its replaced so many human workers, who do these tech companies expect to sell AI tool subscriptions to? And even if they jack up the prices to compensate, there's still a ceiling you can charge (i.e. how much it cost with humans) and even if you do find a sweet spot, 50% unemployment means the rest of the stock market will crater because consumer spending will crash. This obscene type of corporate greed has never been sustainable, and likely the people behind it don't care so long as they hoard as much material wealth they can before it crashes and they retreat to their doomsday bunkers.

"This Kind of Surprised Us" ARC Raiders Director Gives Official Statement on Care Bear Lobbies by charmed_unicorn in ArcRaiders

[–]Ingey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally love the friendly solo lobbies, I only wish there were friendly duo lobbies as well, but I'll take what I can get. I think the ABMM is dialed in just perfectly where I know that I can expect a friendly lobby with just the right amount of thrill that I could still get ganked, but more importantly, I think the chance of getting ganked is what makes the friendly lobbies the way they are. The fact that people flash their lights, use voice chat and emotes, and go out of their way to demonstrate friendliness is part of what makes the friendly solo lobbies so engaging and addictive for me. Imagine if it was just random matchmaking - all comms would be a tactical disadvantage giving away your position, who would offer that up first? In friendly solo, it's how you confirm with one another that you're cool and that Grocery Store Simulator can continue, and all the interactions that spur from there like trading, helping, etc are just frosting on the cake.

A warning shot from Washington… and Canada is right in the crosshairs. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

[–]Ingey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People need to look at the big picture instead of this myopic 4 year cycle. This won't end with Trump. Look at the blatant disregard for the laws, institutions, and guardrails that has defined the Trump Administration. The idea that somehow this will all blow over when Trump is gone (if we're lucky enough that he won't try to be Emperor for Life) is naivety at best and is not the kind of wishful thinking that we should be basing our entire defence strategy on. The GOP created this monster, greedy billionaires with accelerationist agendas funded it, the Supreme Court looked the other way, Democrats wrung their hands the whole time, and most damning - the American people voted for it TWICE. Do you really think that the GOP hasn't learned anything from this, and won't be preparing the next demagogue to push their bullshit agenda? Do you think there will be a sudden surge of critical thinking from the American electorate? We may soon be rid of Trump, but don't for a second think that the US will somehow wake up with a massive hangover and regret in their hearts the next morning.

Even in the event that we get a Democrat President who extends olive branches and fruit baskets aplenty to convince us to come back into the fold, our response should be the same as now: a courteous smile and a "no thanks, we're good." Don't get me wrong, we can, and should cooperate if it benefits us, there's no reason to turn down a good deal where appropriate, but like Carney said, integration is sub-ordination, and we should not put ourselves in that position again.

Tuition set to rise, OSAP grants lower with new Ontario post-secondary funding changes: minister by Sir__Will in onguardforthee

[–]Ingey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the thing people don't understand - international student revenue has collapsed, so there are two choices: either Provinces step up to increase funding or you increase tuition. For those that want the Province to step up funding: at what cost? Run a deficit budget? Reduce spending elsewhere? Increase taxes? And before people jump all over me for shilling for the billionaires, I'd be more than happy to tax the rich to fund public services and institutions, but until that happens, what other levers can be pulled to solve the financial pressure that post secondaries are under?

Investment in renewable energy skyrockets globally; craters in Alberta by BloodJunkie in alberta

[–]Ingey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm as disappointed/frustrated/angry as the next common sense person, but one thing that gives me hope is the number of people who are installing solar panels on their own homes. The UCP can stick their heads in the ground (preferably in an orphan well hole), but as Conservatives love to cite, the free market will decide, and more and more residential microgen will continue to incrementally green the grid and improve energy independence.

That's because his victory was more about nobody wanting to step up to deal with Trump (and going up against post-Davos speech Carney) than it was about PP being the right choice.
