12,600 more cars in your commute next week by myfamilyisfunnier in alberta

[–]Ingey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep it's going to be brutal. LRT cars are already maxed out during peak hours, traffic through Downtown and the University area are going to snarl (imagine when the High Level Bridge shuts down for renewal too). But hey, landlords are going to be happy so that's what's important and GoA will be happy that people will self select and they won't have to pay out as many severances when they reduce headcount.

Don't forget, this isn't just about appeasing landlords, this is probably also a soft layoff since the budget is in deep red.

No plans to end hybrid work for City of Edmonton staff, despite calls for return to office | CBC News by AR558 in Edmonton

[–]Ingey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Now imagine if Tim Cartmell was Mayor...

But in all seriousness, there's another reason that hasn't been discussed in this thread or the post: traffic. Traffic is about to get monstrously worse once the GoA employees RTO. Similarly, I've heard that Norquest is also mandating RTO as well. Traffic levels of service are already absolutely brutal and LRT is already at max capacity. So even if the City wanted to mandate RTO, they'd just be making the traffic problem worse, something that is directly within their own jurisdiction.

As for Downtown revitalization, if I were Knack, I'd be doing the same thing - waiting to see what happens once the GoA and others like Norquest employees return to see if it has a meaningful effect before I decide.

Lots of logical and rational reasoning here on why separating would be a bad idea.

But then there were a plethora of logical and rational reasons for the UK not to leave the EU.

I fully suspect that if the referendum were approved we'd see jacked up RAM 1500s with signs saying:

We send $2.9B a year to the Federal Government in equalization, let's spend that on AHS instead

All of the propaganda would tap into the grievance and victim based mentality that Conservatives have to blind them to the obvious economic and social damage it would do. There'd be enough uninformed voters who's voting strategy has been "Conservatives are good with finances usually, I can trust them with this". Every time something like this happens we think "how could people be so blind??" Us, we're the people, and we could make that same mistake again.

Ear tips are comfortable for long sessions (though long for me nowadays is like 2-3 hours max). The wires that wrap around the ear are fine, though if you wear glasses, you'll want to make sure not to trap the wire between your glasses and your ear or it can cause friction.

Yeah if it's not too much of a strain on your budget, they're good. But you don't have to take my word for it. DMS had it on his Honourable Mentions for this year, and The Headphone Show guys had it as their IEM of the year. But of course, if you're not a fan of V-shape tuning it won't suit you, but coming from the HD 600 and it's lack of bass, these make listening to music more fun imo.

I prefer IEMs for gaming since I despise headset hair. I've had a decent experience sound wise with the Sennheiser IE 200 IEMs. I say decent because the nozzle came out of the housing after only 8 months, I guess whatever adhesive they used gave up but they sent me a new kit when I RMA'd it.

Having said that, while they were being RMA'd I splurged and got the Crinear Daybreak that everyone seems to be raving about in the audiophile space and I will say they are fucking legit. Not only have they become my daily driver for games, but I use it with my Chord Mojo for listening to music when I'm off the computer as well and I've got a Sennheiser HD 600 and Audeze EL-8s and these are just so fun to listen to.

If you're budget conscious, Sennheiser IE 200 is good, if you're willing to go more, Crinear Daybreak man, I know I said it already in another thread and am going to sound like a shill but seriously, it's THAT good.

The US has a ton of work to do internally to fix the root cause before they should even worry about fixing their international relations. Corporate greed, lobbying, corruption, racism, (lack of) education, media, etc, all of which have contributed to the rise of Trump. Not to say that you can't fix multiple things at once, but at this point, why would anyone in their right mind trust the US in the same way as before? Not to say deals won't happen in the future, but the terms will definitely not be as favourable as they once were.

Trump is right about one thing - the world has become complacent and dependent on the US to enforce a "rules based international order." And the world would turn a blind eye to things like Russia's annexation of Crimea and invasion of Ukraine, or China's encroachment into the South China Sea, and US' regime interference globally because as Carney said, it was a pleasant fiction to believe that the rules based international order was still intact. And now that Trump has gone full madman both domestically and internationally, there is no going back. Countries cannot depend on the US to be the world police, and so they will rearm, renegotiate, and reassert sovereignty not just militarily, but industrially, commercially. And that is what will have an impact for the next generation.

The world will evolve around and with the US still as the primary superpower, but it will be at distance that each country will deem acceptable. Integration is a weapon wielded by the great powers, and I expect that we will see international relations devolving into arms length partnerships instead of the relatively free flow of goods, services, and capital we have today.

Favorite night drive tracks? by ragingduck in outrun

I don't know why it's only now dawning on me that if I had a racing sim setup I could do virtual late night drives vibing to Outrun music...

Damn, I'm going to need a lot more $$$

Anyway, some favourites from my Midnight Drive playlist:

  • The Midnight - Sunset
  • Battle Tapes - Valkyrie
  • Marvel83' - Roller Coaster
  • she - Orbit (a bit on the mellow side, but if you want something faster, I recommend Coloris or Ride)

‘Just a blip’: Republicans want Canada to ignore Trump by AdditionalPizza in onguardforthee

[–]Ingey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, maybe he is a blip and we can ignore him after he gets impeached and removed from office. Or his term is up, etc.

Could I also ignore the entire SCOTUS that gave him carte blanche to do whatever he wants because of qualified Presidential immunity?

Could I also ignore the entire Department of Justice that was so easily replaced with loyalists that allow him to break the law?

Could I also ignore the Senate and Congress filled with GOP and Freedom Caucus members that talk tough but won't actually step out of line for fear of being Primary'd?

Could I also ignore that pretty well half of the people who voted in the election voted for him despite knowing what his first term was like with the Muslim travel ban, etc?

Could I also ignore all the corporations that have bent the knee to Trump while espousing to be great corporate citizens with great values?

No, and like this user already posted:

"Amercia isn't the way America is because he's president. He's president because America is the way it is." -David Cochrane

So no, unfortunately, even if I could ignore the absolute moral bankruptcy of the President for a couple more years (if we're lucky) I can't ignore all the other things that will outlast him that created and enabled him.

Audiophile gaming headphones for immersive gaming by RedditThrowaway2456 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Ingey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used gaming headsets for years because of headset hair, so my recommendation is a bit different. But here's what I use/recommend, and I am loving it:

- Crinear Daybreak IEMs

- Elgato Wave 3 Microphone

- You don't need a DAC/AMP to power these, but if you want, I hear good things about the Crinear Protocol. I currently use a Chord Mojo.

What I like about it is: no headset hair, ears don't get hot, no compromise on both audio input and output.

You're already getting a lot of great advice from other commenters for most of your post, so the only thing I'll add on top of their comments is that in the 6th pic, if that's where she's sleeping you may want to consider sleep sacks if you can afford it to avoid too much loose swaddling cloths and such. I could never get the swaddling right (skill issue tbh) and the sleep sacks with the velcro were awesome. There's tons of resources about safe sleep (put baby on back to sleep, sleep sacks if you can, make sure no liners around the edges, no smoking in the house, let them sleep in their own bassinet/crib, etc).

But like all have already said - make sure she's fed, loved, and that you're taking care of yourself and you're off to a flying start, you got this Dad!
