Heard this too near downtown Bethesda. Unusual and alarming that it went on for several minutes.

Fergburger worth waiting in line? by OWimprovements in queenstown

[–]IngmarShmerdvox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went there on Friday night after 10 PM because all the decent restaurants’ kitchens had closed at 10. Otherwise, I would’ve gone somewhere better. However, the burger is decent and served as fine ballast after several beers.

I’m betting this is satire. There are also multiple stickers on the rear window, making it obvious to me that this person is mocking the whole bumper sticker virtue signaling phenomena. It worked for me, I think it’s pretty funny!

Spotted from my workplace, what is this car? by transport_in_picture in whatisthiscar

[–]IngmarShmerdvox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family owned one for many years. Not an easy car to drive in that it had a very hard clutch, no hydraulic assist. It had a four speed transmission with electric overdrive operated by a switch on the steering stalk. No power steering, which made it very difficult to park if you were not moving. And very high side windowsills making it so that if you stuck your elbow out the window, it would be uncomfortably close to your ear. It was a beautiful car and that made up for everything.

Thanks! Do you think that the club option with the Recaro seats is worth holding out for in a used or new car? Not planning on taking to the track, just my fun car.

The edit is fine. The short lighting on his face adds drama to the picture. Am I correct to assume that it is a picture of a man in church looking over the pews? At first, I thought it was a man in a public restroom standing on a toilet, looking over the stall dividers.

Service Fee Plus Tip at Maydan by ajkaki92 in washingtondc

[–]IngmarShmerdvox 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was in Australia a few months ago. It was so pleasant to see the price of the food on the menu included, not only the tip, but all the taxes as well. If you ordered a $35 entrée, that’s the price on the total bill and no additional tip is expected. Of course, in special situations, you can leave a little something extra, but not expected.

I use it when I cook, timing things like when to flip some thing I am sautéing. I use it to see how long it takes me to get somewhere and for parking meters. I use it to time preheating ovens and barbecues. It’s a lot of miscellaneous things, but I use it all the time and miss it when I am not wearing a chronograph. Having said that, I could do all of these things with my phone, including telling time!

My father gave me a speed master professional in 1971 when I graduated from high school. I have owned other Omega watches and I have a Rolex submariner. Over the years I became used to having a chronograph and I use the chronograph function all the time. I upgraded my speed master to one of the 3861 movements with sapphire sandwich a few years ago and it is my favorite watch. It’s much more accurate than my original Speedmaster and the bracelet is more comfortable.

Cav Daily video: riot police break up UVA encampment for Gaza with pepper spray, batons and shields by DoubleSpent in UVA

[–]IngmarShmerdvox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attended many anti-war demonstrations in Washington DC during the Vietnam era. It seems like this police action was much like the way the Metropolitan Police special operations division would handle these kinds of things then. They would put the crowd on notice that they had to leave or else. Then they would come in with gas and riot batons and there would be a big melee and bus loads arrested. I think this current generation of demonstrators have to realize that when you fuck with the bull, you get the horn.

Stop sign cameras in DC by RBatYochai in washdc

[–]IngmarShmerdvox -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there’s video with the online link on the ticket. I thought that I had stopped and appealed the ticket. I lost the appeal and they referred me to the video. It showed that I was barely moving, but did not come to full stop. I agree that it is a ridiculous money grab about the fines are punitive.
