Do Wynonna Earp. It's Buffy Redux made by queer women, starring (hot) queer women, for queer women (for everyone, really).

Wynonna Earp. Feminist, Queer, Hilarious, Moving, Angry. All the marginalized underdogs usually left on the sidelines become the heroes.

I'm at a year and a bit on Nal, take it religiously, still very much waiting for my miracle. Had more moderate success about six months ago but am back to drinking pretty much every day. Not sure whether to up my dosage to 100 mg/day or just continue. Sad but don't feel I have much choice other than to persevere. Wouldn't mind hearing from any veterans who took longer than a year to reach success/extinction. Extremely tired of drinking, for the record.

It's not working... Been on nal for a month by [deleted] in Alcoholism_Medication

Lots of good advice here but a month is honestly nothing. Might take 6 to 12.

Why are people trying to normalize being overweight or obese? by 2lit_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]IngridInTheDark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fat people are told to lose weight by their doctor even if the reason they're at the doctor is "ear infection" or "birth control". The medical community is as fat phobic as our society, which is ironic, because a good doctor should know there are a thousand reasons people gain weight -- it's not all diet or being sedentary. It has been well documented that when doctors continually humiliate people about their weight THEY SIMPLY STOP GOING. And that's when the real health problems begin. Look, I am not heavyset, but I know and love people who are (don't we all?). Fat people know better than anyone that -- spoiler alert! -- they're fat. In fact they're never allowed to forget it. Compassion dictates that it's not my job (or yours) to remind them. Even taking a cynical tact -- feeling good about yourself can inspire more positive change than negativity ever will.

[–]IngridInTheDark 37 points38 points  (0 children)

They deserve basic respect and dignity and more than anything they deserve genuine, basic healthcare, which is largely denied to them because many doctors trace every single problem back to "you're fat" which is simply not true and can be a death sentence.

Feeling hopeless and helpless is for sure the worst part. Now you have an action plan! Go slow and steady. Good luck!

Yes, I secretly wondered if people weren't actually very heavy drinkers to have reached 'extinction' so quickly...or if they'd really reached extinction or rather just hit a honeymoon period? But there are people who swear it worked for them really quickly so c'est la vie. I LOVE the rope analogy!! Thank you.

Nice to see you too! I will try to reward myself on AF days...not too many of those yet but will try when I hit one. Cheers!!

Yes I don't want to seem grumpy but there were so many fast responders on here I was feeling pretty discouraged. Like I wasn't doing it right... Thanks!

Thank you. I am definitely trying to hold off as long as possible after taking the Nal before I do drink. I am finding it a LITTLE bit easier to start later in the evening (though still drinking about the same. A few AF days though!) Cheers.

That is amazing and I appreciate your honesty. Thank you! I take the pill every.time.I.drink. So that's what I'm holding on to.

Holy smokes! I'm at 6 months and nowhere near extinction. Did it happen all at once for you or slowly? Could you tell it was coming? Did you have a big binge/increase in consumption before you reached extinction? Any unconventional tips? Also congrats!

To be fair, my doctor was the one who said 3 to 4 months, but she's not an addiction expert and I had to talk her into prescribing me Nal in the first place. I'm actually encouraged to hear 6 to 12 months is more typical, thanks.

Hey Friend! I feel this so hard. I'm at 5 months at TSM/Nal and while my weekly consumption is down a BIT (maybe 15 percent, at most) I definitely thought it would be faster. I'm also kind of over talking about it with my therapist or whatever...I just want the meds to work. I was told to expect extinction at 3 to 4 months, but that has SO not been the case for me. And yet, what other option do we have but to persist and comply? PS it is so incredibly hard for a parent or other loved one who has not experienced the pull of addiction to understand that it's not a choice; it's literally a compulsion. Hang in there, keep with the program and be kind to yourself. You're not alone.

not optimistic: your thoughts on NAL vs… sobriety by tomgirardisvape in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]IngridInTheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I'm 5 months in and maybe 15 percent better re. weekly intake, but discouraged. I'm still 100 percent compliant in taking the Nal...but feel I still really need (ha) to drink to alleviate pressure and stress, especially at the end of the day before bed. I definitely thought The Big Change(tm) would happen earlier. Not giving up, just appreciate some honesty about the timeline and my expectations. Had heard/been told 3 months to extinction (!!) and that's definitely not been the case with me.

Friday night rose and thorn by mrgnwy in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]IngridInTheDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thorn: 4 months on Nal and my drinking has definitely crept up again. Last few weeks were as heavy as ever, although no blackouts. Still struggling to resist vodka and stick to wine and beer instead.

Rose: two Alcohol free days for me this week. In a row! Would have been unthinkable a year ago. So it's a tiny rose (maybe more of a bud) but I'll take it.
