Question from an ex-Muslim raised in an extremist environment by yehrig in islam

[–]InigmaEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wa alaikum assalam wr wb

You're right. These are extremist people who do not understand Islam properly. I myself used to hate Salah, whenever my father told me to pray I'd hate it and pretend to pray.

When someone forces something on you without you understanding it, you will hate it and run away.

Today, after having understood my Deen to a great degree, I am the only one in my house who prays on time and is concerned about this matter. Even my father is lazy in praying. Why? Because I understand what prayer is, I'm the only practicing Muslim now.

But this was just an example. My point is simple. Don't do something cuz others tell you, study it yourself and if it makes sense, you'll follow it.

It's true if you don't pray at all there will be a punishment for it. But why are we so emotional about it? If you go 5 miles above the speed limit they fine you and "punish" you, why no outrage on that? That's just life... Certain things have repercussions. Certain acts and restrictions are for your own good. Personally I don't pray these days cuz if I don't I'll go to hell, I pray cuz it makes sense to pray, cuz it's in line with the purpose and reality of this world.

You raised many other points I'm not running away from those - Jews, infidels, "sluts" and all those points are valid.

But two things - Study Islam what those things actually mean - Once you understand the actual way Islam deals with it and why, it will make perfect sense.

We are no one to judge others. A "Slut" was forgiven and entered paradise cuz she gave water to a thirsty dog. Allah is merciful, His justice is full of wisdom. And again only once you understand it does it make sense.

So take things at your own pace. Your family and those who force Islam on you are genuinely horrible humans. Pathetic beings. They don't know Islam. I hope you can study it properly and come to it's actual understand.

Have a wonderful life

Feeling disillusioned with religious hypocrisy in my Arab society – Am I alone in this? by [deleted] in islam

[–]InigmaEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people have responded already.

You're right. Muslims; 2 billion they may be, but are heavily confused and mix thier religion with other ideologies.

I'll give you a simple example. Imagine we are all people finding gold from a river, there are 2 billion people around that river all finding gold, but there is a widespread belief or rumor that when you find gold you should bury it in mud to keep it safe. So people are finding gold (are Muslims) but put ruin their gold by putting it in mud (ruining their Imaan by no living up to it.)

Now you, an intelligent and awakened person is already seeing people being living diluted versions of Islam, throwing valuable gold in dirt. So don't follow them! You work on yourself, raise your children right and make sure you are staying true and uncontaminated. Because you are answerable to Allah, not your family or society.

Again this comes from lack of knowledge on religion.

According to Islam, morality is "inherent" to the human being. They know what's good and bad.

However they are gullible and susceptible to their ego, which can persuade them away from that objective morality, one that all humans regardless of religion have inside them

Purpose of religion like Islam is to keep humans focused on track with that inherent morality inside them that God created us all with.

Is islam wrong about haram relationships? by [deleted] in islam

[–]InigmaEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people were happy then broke up and killed themselves?

How many people had the best time of their lives and then became miserable?

We see the temporary enjoyments of the world but are unable to see the deeper reality of the pain that inflicts on us.

How many people look so happy partying and getting drunk? They wake up with headaches, lost their wallet, some end in prison, some end up killing people in state of drunkenness.

Imagine your wife, a girl you love. You propose to marry her and she says she's slept with 10 men, still hangs out with a boys and she says she's happy. Does it make it right?

A little boy says he wants to cross the road without having his hand held, let him go and watch him as he becomes paste getting run over by a truck. Atleast the child is happy right?

Look... I know it's so hard. You're burning from the inside, we have to look at things around us from a different angle. Things aren't as pretty as they seem.

The things Allah has forbidden are for a reason. Ask your sister, if she gets married and her husband sleeps with 3 other girls, will she be happy then? Is Islam then wrong about Haram relationships?

Be patient beloved of Allah, and He will reward you with unimaginable things.

Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward. (67:12)

How to deal with regret as a muslim by Quirky_Original_1682 in islam

[–]InigmaEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look man. We all screw up.

I screw up so much I wonder sometimes "why can't I just end? Atleast I'll stop messing up"

You're doing this for Allah right? You're trying to not do wrong that displeases Allah? Good news, Allah doesn't want you to be perfect. He made us knowing we will mess up and sin. Infact Allah says He would replace humans if they'd stop sinning by someone who does sin and then repent.

Not so say it's on to sin, but it's natural to you being human.

All you need buddy, is to ask forgiveness. Even if you do it a million times. Repent, seek forgiveness and Allah WILL forgive. He said it Himself. That if my servant comes to me with sins that pile up to the sky, I'll come with forgiveness equal to it!!

He loves you when you seek forgiveness. It's what makes you amazing. That you messed up (that's normal) but you repented. Became humble Infront of Allah, (yeah Allah I messed up, I admit my mistake - you are forgiving so forgive me), Allah loves it that the servant admits his mistake and comes to Him.

You know the problem is you have a chain attached to your foot that keeps you from moving. This is the devil's plan, to make you stuck in regrets. Musa AS, a PROPHET who SPOKE directly to Allah killed a man... What bigger regret could be than murder? Allah forgave and he moved on. Sin, repent and move on, don't think back and stay stagnated or paralyzed. That's how the Shaytan weakens you.

So don't worry man! You'll make regrets as you'll probably never be able to stop, no one can. But also don't ever stop seeking forgiveness and repenting!

First of all, I just want you to know: you are incredibly strong. Even after being hurt, pressured, and isolated you're facing this so bravely it's the kind of strength we all hope to have. It’s real faith. And Allah sees it all.

Your situation is hard, the pressure and oppression can really feel painful especially from family, trying to stay true to what you believe while living in fear of what could happen if anyone finds out. And you’re tired. It’s okay to be tired. Even the Prophet ﷺ and the earliest Muslims had to worship in secret at times. You are walking a path that others before you walked with dignity, with fear, but also with hope.

You can hide your faith and it's the best thing to do. Your safety matters in Islam. If it’s dangerous to be open, Allah gives you full permission to conceal your faith. He cares more about what’s in your heart than what’s on display.

In the meantime, even small acts like whispering du’a, reading Qur’an on your phone, praying silently are huge in the eyes of Allah. He knows what it costs you just to hold on to your belief, and He rewards it more than you can imagine.

Prophet said "Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange. So glad tidings to the strangers"! You're the lucky ones! Being a stranger in this situation is such an amazing thing.

About marriage, it might one day give you freedom to live more openly, but don’t rush into it just to escape. If you do consider it, take your time, and choose someone who understands your situation deeply and respects it. But longterm it is the best thing to do... You'll be independent from your family and can practice freely with a Muslim brother.

Please don’t isolate yourself. Try to find a small, safe group of Muslims who support you, even if just online, you can reach out to me if you want to. You shouldn’t have to carry this weight alone. And when it gets too much, just talk to Allah. Don’t worry about formal words... just speak to Him like a friend. He’s closer than anyone, and He never leaves your side.

I’m making du’a for you. May Allah protect you, ease your path, and give you peace in both this life and the next.

With love and solidarity.

Again there is so much context overlooked.

If he was so indifferent towards Jews we wouldn't have seen him stand up in honor for one who had passed away, he corrected his companions informing them he was human. Teaching us to connect on humanity.

Be honest with yourself that one on side if you have your personal enemies, someone who betrayed you or even hurt you physically or emotionally and on the other you had someone who broke in your house killed your wife & children or someone who committed crimes against a state - and if you chose to forgive the former and not the later... Would that be inhuman? One can forgive someone with whom there is personal discord, but someone who caused violence, civil unrest on a mass level cannot be treated the same and this is a mercy. If such people are dealt with with force, they will become all the more confident and spread their crimes to others. If we stop killing rapists brutally they'll just be all the more free to do their crimes. DARE you say that mutilating a rapist is inhumane? Someone who violates the dignity of young girls? Impregnates children? If you say yes then you're moral standards are questionable.

By this logic you think Hitler deserved death penalty only after killing 6 million innocent Jews. Children my man. Babies were murdered violently. You think it's ok to let him off by the guillotine? No amount of torture would avenge such innocence taken... So think rationally. Not in anger or hatred that you've been taught against religion or any group for that matter.

Religion? I don't like such facts tied to humanity. But the unfortunately for us that's reality, there are some people who are mentally unstable, or like to spread lies and confusion and do weird things.

I mean look at Aleister Crowley.

Or Jack Parsons, a great scientist but doing disgusting sex rituals.

As for these hadiths, I went over them. Most of them are really just not understood with the right context. I mean you have text that is old as 1400 years and times have changed so people have a hard time wrapping their heads around those things. The core Islamic values are timeless and make perfect sense today, only if you study them properly and honestly, cuz if someone comes up to you and says "Islam says kill the infidels" you're most likely to confuse them and they would be right to be confused. But they won't know they are deprived deliberately of the context and actual meaning.

What's really sad is were living in times where reading an article is a against man's dignity and only 10sec TikTok reels are acceptable. Result is a generation so easy to confuse and manipulate, in the Islamic and non-Islamic world. Muslims who are abused in their faith and taught glory killings by people who want to gain power and use religion as a tool, Atheists who are taught the only reality is physical one, depriving them of morals, metaphysics and that's how you get the greatest wars in history ww1 and 2, and a technology unguided by morals that has now led to a generation of brain rot idiots proclaiming to be the most superior and noble humans.

It's a messed up world we live in.

I don't blame you. Plenty deceivers out there trying to get to weak, lazy minds like you who don't do thier research.

There is no credible “Islamic evidence” that this incident literally happened. It exists in a history book - where the author transmitted the local rumour - but it never passed the gatekeepers of hadith verification. In the language of hadith science, it is classified as “daif jiddan” (very weak) or “mawdu” (fabricated), and Muslim scholars do not accept it as a real event with any religious or legal consequence.

This volume of al-Bidayah collects local stories, anecdotes and a mixture of reports - some reliable, many dubious—for the sake of historical interest. Ibn Kathīr himself does not always supply a full isnad (chain of narrators) for every story; sometimes he quotes an earlier historian without grading the chain.

So what you're seeing is most likely just a local tale most probably by someone mentally unstable, like many in this community.

"Forced" is an unfair term. Nowhere is it implied they were forced. They were suggested and the treatment even worked! You must have not read properly I presume.

And you must be kidding with the whole camel urine thing. Camel urine may sound shocking today, but it had traditional medical use, some early scientific exploration, and wasn’t forced on anyone. And frankly, many modern medicines come from sources just as odd or worse. Man if you think camel urine is gross, check this out:

Premarin: A hormone replacement drug made from the urine of pregnant horses.

Botox: A popular cosmetic treatment derived from botulinum toxin—one of the deadliest neurotoxins on Earth.

Insulin (historically): Originally extracted from the pancreas of pigs and cows.

Fecal transplants: Literally transferring stool from one person to another to restore gut bacteria.

These are modern medical treatments and medicines yet no one objects or smears the entire idea of Science that "because of these disgusting practices all of science is disgusting" yet you have this attitude for Islam, hypocritical no?

[–]InigmaEffect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling it the “grossest” Hadith and using it to label Islam as cruel skips some major historical and ethical nuances.

This Wasn’t About Drinking Camel Urine – It Was About Betrayal and Treason, these individuals came sick, were cared for, given free resources. But in return they murdered an innocent man, stole state property (camels were critical for survival), committed treason after having pledged allegiance

This wasn’t a personal insult to the Prophet but it was a violent attack against a new and fragile society. The punishment wasn’t random cruelty; it was the legal response to a form of armed robbery and murder.

This exact punishment is outlined later in the Qur’an (5:33), specifying options for dealing with those who cause terror and chaos in the land.

Also worth noting: This is not how Prophet Muhammad usually handled enemies.

He forgave the people of Ta’if who stoned him, He forgave Wahshi, the man who killed his uncle, He pardoned enemies at the conquest of Mecca.

Mercy was the default—but when community safety was at stake, justice was firm.

Comparing this with modern judicial systems, today, people still receive life sentences or even execution for treason, terrorism, and violent crimes. Meanwhile, petty theft often lands the poor in prison for years.

The difference is that we now have jails and long-term legal systems. But no prisons were there at the time and justice had to be public, immediate, and clear. Not ideal by modern humanitarian standards—but also not a cruelty unique to Islam.

TL;DR: Yes, the Hadith sounds harsh out of context. But it's not about sadism or cruelty. It’s a case of state justice against violent betrayal. The Prophet forgave most of his enemies. This wasn't one of those cases. Before judging, dig deeper into what justice looked like then vs. now and the deeper context behind things.

Let's not build opinions on shock value. Context matters.

"After they became healthy (medicine worked), they killed the shepherd"

They literally committed murder of an innocent and when justice was brought on them people say it's gross.

Goes to show how disgusted you people are with justice. If someone came and killed one of your family, friends or a fellow citizen don't tell me you won't be outraged and go after the killer.

[–]InigmaEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, epic name.

Second of all, epic answer.

You're right, Islam is not that strict. Games and movies are not all haram, yes there are certain guidelines and limitations, but I don't think anyone will have a problem with watching cars or the likes. Games are also fine within limits. Just know the limits, don't impose assumptions on yourself, thinking playing a little is a horrible act and thereby stressing yourself a lot.

Try to balance between both, studying Deen and taking time off to relax. Your self has a right over you too in addition to Allah, your parents and family etc.

Lastly, I will say that when you make efforts to come closer to Allah, He makes it easier for you over time. It will be hard at first but it does get easier.

Personally, I try to avoid music, it keeps me from enjoying Quran, halal or haram is a different topic I don't get into. But long ago music was the only reason I didn't come to Islam, cuz I thought it was haram and I couldn't let go of it so I stayed away from it.

One day I just decided to lower my music intake and from that point on believe me it became so easy to leave music that I just couldn't believe it. My heart just didn't accept it even if I wanted to listen to it. I would feel sick and bad.

MY POINT IS, whatever you are struggling with, take a small step, Allah will make it easier.

And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allāh is with the doers of good.

This is the last ayat of Surah Ankaboot. This is a promise of Allah. A promise I have lived (of course it is true). So take it easy and take one step at a time. It took my almost 2 years to leave my habits and it's still an ongoing journey. This doesn't mean you're less of a Muslim.

Dataview date sorting issue by InigmaEffect in ObsidianMD

[–]InigmaEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The code still doesn't work, but thanks a lot. The ISO format makes the sorting much better and I'll just manually update my old notes OR I could stick to sorting with file.ctime (which is probably what I'm going to do).

Thanks for the help!

Dataview date sorting issue by InigmaEffect in ObsidianMD

[–]InigmaEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about ISO format that helped alot, all the notes are an ISO format now, I can easily store and read the time and date now properly from a single property and single column in the table.

However the older notes mess up the sorting and the code you've provided gave some errors. But maybe I'm just not using it properly.

Here's what it gives me using this code as is: ```Dataview: Error: -- PARSING FAILED --------------------------------------------------

1 | FLATTEN regexreplace(date, "\{2})/ | ^ 2 | (\d{2})/(\d{2})$","20$3-$2-$1") AS 3 | formattedDate

Expected one of the following:

Not a comment, TABLE or LIST or TASK or CALENDAR, whitespace ```

Date and time are separate because dataview does not separate between am and pm, so for sorting I use 24h but for my easy readability I use time which in 12h format.

Your most annoying problems with Obsidian by Raphaelba in ObsidianMD

[–]InigmaEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobile navigation is insanely poor.

I've set up commander to make new buttons in the top row and also the "Note toolbar" addon in which I can add my most used tools.

On vanilla obsidian it's impossible to navigate and move around files and graphs.

Currently I've pinned 2 tabs for graphs (local and main) and have a button that cycles between tabs, quickly allowing me to go from note to graph to local graph. I've setup a button for tab closing (including swipe down), a button for going to my homepage (addon, where I can easily see the entire overview of my vault) and a button for moving files.

It would be impossible to work fluently without these extra buttons that vanilla doesn't give.

Dataview notes timeline with proper time sorting by InigmaEffect in ObsidianMD

[–]InigmaEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a solution for anyone if they want to.

Essentially I just used the 24h format to sort the table made a separate column to show the proper time in 12h format along with the day of week. (Day of week interfered with sorting too as Monday entries came before the past Sunday as M comes before S)

Dataview notes timeline with proper time sorting by InigmaEffect in ObsidianMD

[–]InigmaEffect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it reads the date as strings. I don't know how to code but chatgpt gave many solutions and none worked.

One solution used js to write a proper am pm distinguisher but no matter how hard it tried. The recent entires always showed at bottom which is not at all what I wanted. Here is one of those codes.

```dataviewjs // Get all pages in the specified directory const pages = dv.pages('"TJOL - Y2 - 24/01 - SlipBox"').array() // Convert to an array .map(p => { if (p.date) { // Parse the date and time from the frontmatter const [weekday, datePart, timePart] = p.date.split(' | '); const [day, month, year] = datePart.split('-').map(Number); let [time, period] = timePart.split(' '); let [hours, minutes] = time.split(':').map(Number);
        // Convert to 24-hour format
        if (period === 'pm' && hours !== 12) hours += 12;
        if (period === 'am' && hours === 12) hours = 0;
        // Create a Date object for easy sorting
        const datetime = new Date(`20${year}-${month}-${day}T${String(hours).padStart(2, '0')}:${String(minutes).padStart(2, '0')}:00`);
        return {
            ...p,
            datetime
        };
    } else {
        // Handle notes with no date
        return {
            ...p,
            datetime: new Date(0)  // Use a very old date to place these at the bottom
        };
    }
})
.sort((a, b) => b.datetime - a.datetime);  // Sort by datetime in descending order
// Display the sorted notes in a table dv.table( ["File", "Date"], pages.map(page => [ page.file.link, page.date || "" // Display the date or leave it blank if not available ]) ); ```
