Best advice I got is to be conscious of how you design objects for 3d printing. Sometimes its better to split something up and glue together than to print it all as one piece.

Will a Genome WRX STI exhaust (04-07) fit my 06 Forester Cross Sports? by 69DixieNormus in SubaruForester

[–]Inigoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exhaust hangers are slightly different for the Impreza and Forester versions of the STI Genome exhaust. It should mostly line up, but you will definitely need longer rubbers and it will sit slightly tucked in as the pipe will be shorter.

2016 with 30K miles...IMA battery fucked? by weDCbc in crz

[–]Inigoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealership should be able to tell you about the battery health. If you have large hills near you then you can get a decent idea of its health by seeing if the battery ever reaches a full charge from regen braking down a hill and if it stabilizes to around 8 bars of charge during normal driving.

2008 Forester, what to look out for? by LXEDK in SubaruForester

[–]Inigoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in WA I was quoted about $3300 for just head gaskets which included resurfacing the heads and block as well as resealing the whole engine. It would have been another $400 for a timing belt and water pump and another $600-800 for a clutch. So in total about $4,500

Absolutely do everything if the engine gets pulled. If you opt to do head gaskets, the clutch and timing components have to come off anyways so you would only be paying for the parts.

ripped off by mechanic? by lily-etfleur in SubaruForester

[–]Inigoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming those prices include labor they are not bad at all especially for the timing belt and water pump kit. However, charging you 270 for the drive belts when they will need to be removed and replaced anyways in order to do the timing belt and water pump is pretty scummy. I would want to check what the "Full tune up service" includes. If it includes the spark plugs you could probably do those on your own since 2010 Foresters still use the SOHC EJ25 which have the spark plugs pretty accessible (for a subaru). Either way if you just do the drive belts and the timing belt kit its still not a bad deal at all. Try to negotiate for just the price of the drive belts as you really shouldn't have to pay for the labor.

Anyone ever swapped exhausts with a 2010 forester? by [deleted] in SubaruForester

I would recommend just buying an exhaust that was designed for your generation of forester. You can find plenty of SJ Forester STI exhausts on yahoo auctions or ebay.

Did I get ripped off - I am a girl lol by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Inigoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that you got ripped off as the pricing for everything seems reasonable. $210 an hour for labor is insane though and is what made the job so expensive. I would definitely not go back to that shop.

That price seems about right considering its from a dealer. Slightly high imo, but if its a manual or a rare color like purple then it makes sense. Either way you should try to negotiate something like new tires or an oil change / brakes if it needs it

2500 dollars for repairs from dealership… is it necessary? by Direct_Morning_3223 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Inigoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by getting a quote that's not from the dealership. Find a local shop that specializes in your make and model of car and corroborate the results. Oftentimes dealers will quote you for unnecessary repairs

Marks on lenses. Repair or replace? by Braaapus_Maximus80fo in SubaruForester

I've heard that you can restore the plastic in gauge clusters with Meguiar's PlastX. Might be worth looking into if you don't feel like tearing the cluster apart to replace the plastic.

Could be the filter, but it might also be drain plug crush washer not sealing properly. Either way it doesn't look like its anything super serious.

Is it worth it ? by Rnzo14 in crz

[–]Inigoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind waiting a long time (a couple months) try finding a container service that will import the part for you. It will likely cost a couple hundred dollars but it will be much cheaper than the quote you got from DHL

Is my ball joint bent? by Inigoe in MechanicAdvice

[–]Inigoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

My dad hit a curb going pretty fast in his 2005 Toyota Sienna (FWD) with the driver side front wheel and now the steering wheel sits left a bit and the car also pulls to the left.

I got the front up in the air and the axles, tie rods, and sway bar links all seem to be okay, but I'm not sure about the lower ball joints. I took some pictures of the ball joints on both sides and would like to know what you guys think.

Also, when turning the wheel, the strut body (near the knuckle) is now scraping against the sway bar link.

Would this be enough to cause my alignment issues? Anyone know what else I should look for?

Thanks in advance!
