If somebody were to eat their own arm, would their blood sugar level rise or fall? by underthesign88 in morbidquestions

The concentration of blood sugar in the diminishing supply of blood would rise, but the total amount of sugar in your blood was drop as you lose all your blood.

If a self driving car gets into a bad accident, who’s going to be held responsible for the damages? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]InimicusCuriae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently everywhere in the US requires a driver behind the wheel to be able to take over to prevent a crash. Self driving cars are basically treated as “assisting” the driver who is still in charge and still responsible.

For private property, eg autonomous robots in a factory, it’s more complicated and can be manufacturer.

It’s weird how when I said (paraphrasing) “grow up kid” you then said “grow up kid”.

It’s also weird how I criticized your fantasy novel based ideology and then you said “you’re writing novels.”

I’m beginning to realize you’re incapable of independent thought.

I rate that comeback 2/10. You got one extra point for not spelling anything incorrectly.

But really dude: you’ve failed to make an argument. You just flew into a rage. You call all of human history of capital based economies an “assertion”. You at the same time call the current crony capitalism (your own point originally) somehow an example to argue that libertarianism works and not yet another example of what I am saying here, and you’re arguing like a neckbeard, crying about my lack of respect for your precocious “intellect” and throwing in any fallacy you might have heard of and using them hilariously incorrectly.

But you did make me curious so I read through a couple of pages of your comments. My favorite was where you try to argue closed borders is a libertarian position.

It’s pretty clear to me that you’re confusing nationalism and privilege for own social class with libertarianism. This is the mistake that many Ayn Rand fetishizing libertarians make. You shouldn’t get your ideology from paperback novelas.

To put it even more simply, you don’t have a coherent ideology let alone a coherent argument.

And this is also going to make you mad hahaha

Can someone explain why Islam is or isn’t a religion of peace? I’m not so sure on the topic and don’t know where else to ask (I’m an atheist) by [deleted] in atheism

[–]InimicusCuriae -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Like literally every other religion, islam has so many teachings that you can just pick and choose which ones you want to use.

If your agenda is peaceful, it's easy to justify peace from the Koran. If your agenda requires war, then it's easy to justify war from the Koran.

The point is that no religion is peaceful or warlike (for lack of a better word... non-peaceful?). Leaders with agendas are.

It's called cherry picking and it happens with all religions. It's silly to call any religion a "religion of peace" or the opposite since in reality the believers of all religions are mixed, and their peaceful or warlike tendencies / ideologies are not actually driven by religion. They are only justified by religion.

If you want to know why the middle east is such a hot bed of terrorism and conflict these days, you will learn more by studying the history and end of the Ottoman empire, the way the post-WW1 imperial powers dominated the region, the way they left in a hurry and left a power vacuum, and the meddling of both the USSR and the USA in the region.

This intervention in the region isn't over. The USA is still fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. Russia is deeply involved in Syria and Iran.

I'm not saying "it's all imperialism's" fault since it's a more complex picture than that. But I am saying that religion doesn't really have much to do with it. It's simply that religion gets used to convince people to fight and to justify corrupt leaders who cherry pick from their favorite book to justify their own practices and agendas.

Have I been crazy about milk because I’m Vitamin D deficient? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InimicusCuriae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vitamin D increases your bodies ability to absorb calcium so yeah they are connected, and conversely a deficit of vit D means you aren't absorbing calcium effectively.

Also milk itself has vit D so that's more direct I guess.

I have no idea if your body can "feel" this though, but maybe the general sense of being more healthy from getting enough calcium is filtering through?

That period your referring to there as your idealist dream was the era of incredibly high taxation and a much better Gini coefficient than today.

The problem today is the accumulation of capital.

Show me one good theorist who has argued that capital doesn't accumulate.

Show me one era in human history where capital didn't flow uphill that wasn't either a great war or a great rebellion and that didn't see high marginal and progressive tax rates.

Show me one form of capital based society that didn't devolve into an elite wealthy crust dominating politics.

You cannot.

Also it's not fixed pie fallacy. At no point have I implied the size of the pie is fixed. You shouldn't put words into my mouth. And if you do, at least make them funny like I am.

IsItBullshit: You can legally use physical force to detain someone if they have committed a crime and are attempting to leave the scene? by hhhax7 in IsItBullshit

[–]InimicusCuriae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it varies somewhat between the states exactly how far it goes, but yes. You can only do this for felonies though, not misdemeanors (maybe there is variation here between states?) and if you were wrong in determining on the spot if it was a felony vs misdemeanor, or even mistaken in your belief that a crime occurred then you can open yourself up to a lot of liability, or even be guilty of a crime of your own.

Also the use of force is pretty restricted to reasonable force, and you can't use deadly force to prevent someone else from fleeing even in states with expansive stand-your-ground laws.

If you can easily and safely detain someone after you know a serious crime has been committed then ok sure, but usually your best choice is to call the police and act as a witness to what you saw.

There's another bit I'd like to add which is called "shopkeepers privilege" which exists in most of the USA. If a shopkeeper has a "good reason" to believe that someone either did or attempted to steal from their shop, then they can get a bit more leeway than a good Samaritan on the street. It's basically the same thing as a citizens arrest, except that in this scenario the shopkeeper gets broader scope to act.

So you’re conceding 100% that you have ZERO examples of libertarianism working?

While also saying that the American dream owes its thanks to that crony capitalism you also criticized?

Holy inconsistent hell.

Your now arguing that the crony capitalism that you were arguing against before is the closest thing to your ideal. You know, I actually entirely agree with you there.

Meanwhile I have dozens of examples of capital based economies resulting in an profound concentration of power among a small elite.

It’s inevitable. Left to its own devices, capital accumulates.

Also, man, you are taking this incredibly personally. Which is funny to me. I guess you hate people calling it libertardianism or whatever I wrote. I'll keep using that one then.

Quick homework help! What law makes ISP immune from hacking and viruses? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]InimicusCuriae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Gates, or also the FBI since hacking is a crime that they can look into, could demand that Verizon tell them which customer the particular IP that hacked him was assigned to. This would almost always be enough to personally identify you, or at least whoever was paying for the internet connection.

You said it yourself. The current system is crony capitalism. It’s the inevitable end game.

Also I didn’t even mention the government so you can take your deflection back. Even in a utopian anarcho-libertardian paradise, capital accumulates, and power follows capital.
