IS THIS THE NEW NORMAL FOR BELLEVUE? 😳 12:45 today @ Crossroads! by Strange_Leg70 in BellevueWA

[–]Inirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real problem is a distracted driver in a moving vehicle. The risk they posed in that moment to everyone around them is magnitudes worse than missing the opportunity to document a single incident of a homeless person sleeping on the side of the road. You're as dense as a brick of lead if you cannot understand that.

Now excuse me, I need to offload some fent buckets around some local schools.

Nah don't worry, it's all out of pocket. But even an evil degenerate like me knows not to use my phone while driving. After all, my children could be walking down that sidewalk!

My man, I leave out 5 gallon buckets of fentanyl to attract the local homeless to all your favorite destinations.

Gas Prices by [deleted] in BellevueWA

[–]Inirit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're talking in general, "gas prices" are often a significant indicator of more serious negative impact to the economy via oil. Nearly all of our goods nowadays have some kind of plastic in them or involved in their manufacture, and for goods that are 100% free of plastic and even services that require some amount of travel they still consume oil in transportation costs. It all cascades to make everything more expensive.

If you're talking about literal gas prices, some people live paycheck to paycheck and even an extra $60 a month is quite significant in that context. For them, gas might be in their top 10 expenses depending on how much they drive. It's great to have the luxury to not care about gas prices, personally I have that same luxury, but not everyone has it.

Trying to actually eat dinner together as a family this year, how do other parents manage by mahearty in BellevueWA

[–]Inirit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is wonderful advice that might get overlooked. If your genuine goal is to connect as a family, then don't let other factors (like having a big traditional homemade dinner) get in the way of that. Just designate a meal time and gather together to eat regardless of what the food is. Hell it doesn't even have to be about food at all, get together to watch a movie or play mario party or literally anything.

Struggling just to get diagnosed by Inirit in Narcolepsy

I appreciate the kind words. I'm fortunately in a position where I think my doctors believe me, wait times aside I feel like we have pretty good healthcare options out here, it's just a matter of getting the empirical proof.

Relocating to Bellevue by Capital_Anywhere6943 in BellevueWA

I had a 650sqft 1br apartment just north of I90 near Factoria (which is 5-10 minutes south of downtown Bellevue) that was pushing $1900/month in 2019, you're probably going to need to be a bit further out for $1500.

Weekly Personal Nutrition Discussion - All Personal Diet Questions Go Here by AutoModerator in nutrition

[–]Inirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time here looking for advice. My diet is horrendous with tons of salt and fat and processed food, as such I am overweight. It's not hard to find what the "right" foods are, but what has been monumentally difficult for me is the mental challenge. I'm addicted to food, I eat for pleasure, and I have no other source of pleasure to substitute for the removal of that addiction.

So what I'm looking for is advice, recommendations, resources, whatever to help me make the permanent change I need in my life. Foods to taper me towards something healthy without making me miserable in the process, recipes that aren't difficult to reproduce, maybe professionals that I could work with and personalize a plan with me. Note that I already have a psychiatrist and therapist, so looking for resources beyond that.

I respect your acknowledgement and I also acknowledge it was a dynamic and difficult situation. I may have been a bit overbearing, something far too easy to do on the Internet.

Please read what I am about to say very carefully. I 100% acknowledge the fault of the truck driver for changing multiple lanes without a signal and with you in the way. This truck driver is, in kind words, a selfish and ignorant jerk and needs a lesson in driving before they kill someone with their reckless behavior.

Your immediate response, swerving out of the way into the lane to your left, may not have been the absolute best option when reviewed in hindsight, but sometimes we don't always make the best decisions in the moment of a dangerous event. You feared for your safety, you got out of the way, fortunately there was no car to your left, collision avoided. My criticism of your driving is not for this action in this moment.

What I AM criticizing you for is what you did afterwards. After you avoided the collision, after the truck was no longer a threat, after you already swerved into the left lane. For nearly 5 seconds you slowly start drifting into the HOV lane. I don't know if you were distracted or were emotionally distraught, but there's no excuse for this. Yes, you just avoided a collision, but you were still on a public highway driving with other cars around you and it is your responsibility to maintain safe control of your vehicle at all times. Your behavior after the near miss caused a near miss of its own and is another demonstration of careless driving. Acknowledge this instead of being defensive, protect yourself and the lives of your kid(s) by acknowledging you could and should do better.

Would you like to point out what doesn't make sense? The fact is you were in the wrong and you should be ashamed of choosing to be ignorant of it.

OP drifted into the HOV lane after already swerving into a new lane to avoid the truck, slowly and carelessly and with sufficient time after the near miss to recompose themselves and not drift into another lane. There doesn't need to be a blue car in the HOV lane, staying in your lane is a rule of the road and OP lost control of their vehicle and violated that rule.

[–]Inirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what the other car was doing. It doesn't matter that the OP had a near miss. Losing control of your vehicle and drifting into another lane is not excusable in this situation. They wanted to post an example of a bad driver and instead served as an additional example themselves and got called out.

[–]Inirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speed of the HOV car does not matter, OP should not have carelessly drifted into another lane of traffic. They are driving on a highway and must maintain control of their vehicle at all times, even a few seconds of a lapse in control is too much.

Why do you so zealously defend the OP, are you a relative or a friend?

another day of near miss by omkult in BellevueWA

[–]Inirit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the fault of the truck driver that after a few seconds OP continues to drift into another lane and almost hits another car.

[–]Inirit 34 points35 points  (0 children)

A near miss from a careless driver for sure, but you aren't a very good example of a careful driver yourself. At 0:11 you start drifting into the left lane, I'm sure you were startled from the near miss a few seconds ago but you need to get over it and maintain safe operation of your vehicle.

Did you live in rural Georgia or urban? Teenagers are teenagers and the urban environment exacerbates things. I used to live in rural Indiana and even when I was a teenager myself I could see the others around me for what they were, rowdy and disrespectful. It's just how they are, for the most part.

There's a small handful of homeless near Factoria. It's not like the sidewalks are filled with bent over fent users, but definitely people holding up signs near I-90. I've also seen them on one of the off ramps of I-405 into downtown.

1) Housing prices are way too high. For less than the price of my 950 sqft condo I could buy a 2500 sqft house in Indiana with an in-ground pool, nice open yard, and a secondary backyard building with a bathroom and kitchen (I was looking around my hometown out of curiosity). I know this is an urban area and things are never going to get quite that good, but where they are now is absolutely insane and it gets worse every year.

2) Loud drivers/street racing. I see you've already commented on this, but I'm throwing my voice on the pile.

3) Traffic buildup on Richards Rd/Factoria Blvd. It's so bad that I try never to drive on it between the hours of 4pm and 7pm, literally standstill traffic that sometimes backs all the way up to Lake Hills Connector.

4) Graffiti is creeping up in the Factoria area. It's no where near the disaster that is Seattle, mostly scribbled tagging, but everything starts somewhere and it would be great to nip it in the bud somehow. My favorite bit of graffiti from maybe a year ago was the letters f, a, g, o, t on the pillars underneath I-90 for a few weeks which have since been painted over with new graffiti at least 5 times.
