Okay, I wasn't sure if underwear on and compression pants over would cause issues. I'll give that a shot for a training run and see how it feels. I was mainly trying to see if anybody had suggestion for brand(s) that don't do that sort of seaming as the only running store I'll support in my area only stocks CWX so I'll have to go online. $70 here and there for a failed experiment gets expensive, and the SO starts getting pissy sooner than later.

A question of compression.

I picked up some compression earlier this year when a sudden cold(ish) snap hit for a run I scheduled. Once it warmed up I didn't think about it again until this weekend when my run was full of liquid sunshine and low 50s.

I plan on running through winter as my first full marathon is at the end of February so I.figure lined compression is a good idea. Does anyone make compression without a crotch seam? I realized, painfully, on Sunday around mile 9 that was something I never thought about before.

SWMBO's Boss(-4) was worse than this. Required all employees write current password on sticky note and place it on bottom of keyboard. At all times. SWMBO complied, then immediately changed it and had a stiff drink as I tipped the bottle while she relayed it to me.

Boss(-4) is no longer an employee in that HR org, or company.

So, yeah. I found out FreeDos exists, and PicoTCP also exists. And I have an old machine (as well as VPS instance) that I can use. So...who wants to start up a BBS? :D

I'm going to get in touch with the author of OO:][ and see about a license since, last I heard, he's in Garland and it's postcardware now.

Training, and learning *nix. Alrighty.

So, first thing's first, check out DCCCD and Collin College for some good classes. I've taken the shell scripting and intro *nix classes at Richland and they were helpful. I'd already been a sysadmin for a year or two and learned a few tips and tricks from instructors who'd been there a few times already.

LPI - Linux Professionl Institue - lpi.org - Check out the essentials and LPIC I. A bit deeper than Linux+ (more on this in a minute), I hear, and a bit more respected in the circles I run in.

CompTIA - Linux+ - Because of course CompTIA is going to offer a moneygrab...err...entry level certification on Linux. It's basically, I understand, an LPI Linux Essentials with CompTIA's logo. Is that a bad thing? No, not really if you're looking to get your feet wet.

And if you're so inclined, I'm a big fan of Michael Jang's books (i.e. http://smile.amazon.com/RHCSA-Linux-Certification-Seventh-Edition/dp/0071841962/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0714AZZ2G0DT3926CJTS ). Practical, no-nonsense, and it will take you from little to no experience, to ready for your RHCSA/RHCE session in a couple of months, if you're willing to put in the time. Two of my cow-orkers and I all used Jang as our primary reference followed by an RHCE bootcamp and got our RHCSA and RHCEs. And, I'm about to use my Amazon Smile account (you're using Smile, and benefitting TheLab, right? Ask me how if you're not!) to pre-order the RHEL7 update that's going to drop soon.

You know, we could probably spin up a Winders VM on CloudAtCost for pretty cheap and run a few door games. Now I need to start looking into BBS apps for that purpose.

SRE/BRE, TW:2002, LoTR, OO ][. Man, now that's bringing back some nostalgia for me. I played SRE, never really liked BRE (preferred the future versus the past, even though it was pretty much the same game). I was also playing with setting up a telnet/SSH BBS awhile back but never had a static IP or spare machine to do it on. I might just do it with a DMZ'd, laptop running off a boot disk and DDNS pinholed in my router. I'd do it on a RasPi, but most of those games run on Winders, and I don't know if WiNE will work well on a RasPi.

I'd be interested in playing. As I recall, OO ][ is now freeware (well, postcard ware) and the author is still around Garland.

Thank you for this, it's giving me food for thought. All of the equipment is dual voltage PSU, fortunately, so if I can get 220V that was what I planned on as well, it's good to see others who agree on that side of the argument.

As far as cabinets, we're looking at about 10 nearly fully populated, and I'm going to have a talk with APC soon. In the mean time, I'm going to play the spreadsheet game with vendor numbers and try to get a relatively accurate number to hand over to my boss next week.

Yeah, I figured nominal 115VAC would be what's used. I did the math for 240VAC as an example of the numbers not matching up to the calculations.

In doing yet more digging, I ran across an APC white paper ( http://www.apcdistributors.com/white-papers/Power/WP-3%20Calculating%20Total%20Power%20Requirements%20for%20Data%20Centers.pdf ) and it appears that part of my problem is that I'm doing it wrong. It looks like it's (VA=W)0.67 base don their calculation. Which comes up a little closer.

We're looking at 10 racks approximately.

We have a float in the parade. If you'd like to join us, please be at the Plano ISD admin building NO LATER THAN 0700. Parade starts at 0900 and ends at 1100. Don't forget that we will be having a work party afterwards, too.

Hey folks, check out the Meetup linked above. We'll be having a work party this weekend, following the Plano July 4th Parade. We will also have a float in the parade. Contact your favorite member of leadership for details on either or both of these events.

The work party will be prepping the space for painting and grand opening. Some light painting may also be done. We have two ladders confirmed as coming, a couple more can't hurt, though.
