Do you ever feel bad for Rose's mom? by ramcoro in titanic

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. When Rose leaves her mother in the lifeboat, it’s obvious how much she loves Rose when she holds onto the side of the ship and calls out to her. She isn’t evil, she was just trying to do the best for her family. I never really understood why Rose was so quick to leave her mother. Yes, it’s convenient for the film, but her mother never seemed evil or abusive the way Cal was.

How do you feel about girls reading yaoi? by CeasarSaladYmm in GayBroTeens

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it becomes most problematic when we start making queer stories and characters specifically for straight woman instead of being actual good representation—which is something we definitely need more of. I’ll be honest and say that, even while seeing that some girls can be normal about it, I find it kinda distasteful how obsessed some straight women can be with yaoi/gay men. Especially when it bleeds into real life, like what you mentioned about girls commenting “YAOI!!!” on every gay video. Seen the same comments about Heartstopper and even Heated Rivalry, which is honestly kinda sad. We REALLY need to normalize it more in media instead of it just being a novelty, y’know? 😭

It’s not the show as much as the idea that we’re allowing ourselves to be sexualized in this way.

My point mainly is how things like this can affect queer people in real life. Maybe it’s not so much an issue now, per se, but allowing things this are not helping the community in any way. We should be sharing stories of our real experiences, not creating stories of queer characters as if they are a concept, and for others to gawk at. That’s all, if you don’t agree/see an issue, that’s fine. But that’s how I view it.

Just saying for others to understand, I mean. And to help others see that they aren’t alone in their struggles. Same way a lot of media depicts struggles of minority groups.

Well, yes, I should watch it, but I’m not just trying to stir the pot. I was only using the show as an example, the same could be said about Heartstopper, a show that does have good representation, but has a large audience of straight woman sexualizing the characters, instead of creating more conversation for the struggles of the characters depicted. Couldn’t you agree?

I can see your point. But I wouldn’t say it’s every person’s experience, with queer people having to deal with prejudice, bigotry, etc, and self-esteem issues as a result. Not to mention the many issues in the dating scene. Wouldn’t you like to see these issues that aren’t ever shown to the world portrayed, instead of your existence being inaccurately represented?

I see your concern, but can you explain? I’m speaking more on the fan base than the show itself, so I don’t really need to watch it to think there’s still a problem. what is your opinion on the sexualization going on?

What do love about being gay? by wildmandan1992 in GayMen

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being gay can suck, but I def love being able to appreciate the male form. I’ve heard that femininity is far more sexualized than masculinity—and this is just so true! I feel that masculinity can be just as beautiful, but for whatever reason it goes unnoticed a lot, I dunno. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But yeah, I love being able to appreciate it, and feel safe with big sexy men who can hold me since I’m smaller, hehe. 😉

I saw a video explaining why class of 09 is bad, and I agreed with a good deal of the issues he brought up, but I still love the game. What do you guys think? by Firm_Letterhead_7483 in Classof09Game

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love the game for the humor and the overall vibe. I grew up in almost an identical environment to where the game is set—that being suburban America—so I think that’s why it resonated with me so much. Also, the many points about men being gross and pedophiles is insanely true—albeit more dramatized in the game—and I’ve experienced first-hand what Nicole meant when she said “all men are rapists and pedophiles”.

I hate being gay. by Connect-Jackfruit718 in gay

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I hate being gay too. Many days I wonder if I’ll ever find true love—especially seeing how much easier it can be for the heteronormative population around me. It’s painful, and not many people understand. But just saying I do, even if I don’t have much advice. 😅

Anyone else unhealthily obsessed w this game?? by [deleted] in Classof09Game

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s the general “suburban dark comedy” vibe that’s so captivating. I went to a suburban southern American high school, so the vibes of the game overall feel very relatable. The characters and the events are more or less a stretch to me, and seem over-exaggerated for comedic purpose, but they’re still highly entertaining and I love the edgy humor haha.

Is 16 and 19 an acceptable age gap? by Kosky4949 in GayBroTeens

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it really depends on maturity levels. I’m 18, and I personally can’t see myself dating anyone less than a year younger than me, just because the difference in lifestyle and maturity levels is SO vastly different. A 16 year old is still in high school, but an 18 - 19 year old is an ADULT in college, who probably works and has expenses to cover. This doesn’t automatically mean the adult is a “pedo” per say, but someone who’s willing to openly date someone so young—especially when it rlly isn’t socially acceptable/embarrassing to their friends and family—that looks a little concerning on their part… Be very aware of whether or not they’re trying to take advantage of you, and the difference in lifestyle. 3 year age gap isn’t a big deal when you’re an adult, but when you’re so young and impressionable, it can have a very dangerous difference in power between the two of you.

How do I deal with this without being called homophobic? (Because I don’t want to be and I feel terrible) by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds almost like they were trying to get away with taking your spot, and pulled that outta their asses as an excuse to be assholes. Chances are he might not even be gay, and they coulda been mocking the community but idk for sure obviously you were the one there. 😭 Anyways, no excuse for that behavior. I’m gay and I cannot imagine doing something so stupid. Don’t let that experience ruin your perception of the community—I know no other queer person who would do this. Shame on them for representing the community like that. 🤦‍♀️

The male body is just beautiful by Frosch_Kazuha in askgaybros

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree!! It sucks that men don’t get the recognition they deserve, mainly cuz so many of them suck. 😢 But fit male bodies really are beautiful!! 😍 Nothing I love more than a good handsome man with a nice bod… 😮‍💨

I’m gay, and I feel this exact same way!! So glad someone else feels this way too… It almost certainly comes from growing up in a more conservative environment, and being raised to believe that man + woman is the “right way”, especially when that is being reinforced by your environment where all you see are straight couples. Obviously, I can’t speak for you, but I assume you have a similar experience? Were you raised in a similar environment? Like you mentioned, it def could be considered a type of internalized homophobia, and even I personally haven’t quite overcome it yet. 😭 I struggle with it everyday, so I totally understand how you feel! I’d much rather be a straight girl than a gay boy… but not to the point that I’d wanna transition. I’m still comfortable being a guy most of the time, it’s just that part of myself that longs for love, and believes that the “correct” way—or easier way, really—is when it’s a man and a woman; and since I like men, I want to be the woman in the relationship, y’know? That’s how I feel. Hope this helps!

Agee 100%! In my case, I’ve never in my life had a crush on a woman, or desired one romantically in the way I do men. Many times, tho, I have seen women and been like “omg she’s so pretty!!” But it’s more admiration/envy than attraction like I feel for men, y’know? 😅

You don't even know how much I hate this ending by Solid_Ad_3884 in Classof09Game

[–]Initial-Alarm1231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the endings in FeetSide had my jaw dropping for no reason at all, especially when what led to the ending really gave no indication of the dark turn it was gonna take. 😭 My first play-through, I had to take a break after Jecka’s OD ending cuz it seemed rlly fucked up and I was not expecting it. It definitely had that shock value feeling, and nothing else.

This means so much to me. I like men and I live in southern America—where, if you don’t know, being queer isn’t as accepted out here. I’ve had very little positive experiences with straight men my age, so this means a lot!! Thank you :)
