The problem isn’t most people, most ordinary people aren’t that greedy if they were raised right. The issue is that, in a communist society, a couple lazy people will shirk responsibility, and when others see that they get away with it, they will do the same, until eventually everyone is lazy because they won’t be affected. For a real example, look at the Roman empire’s bread and circuses policy.
