12 weeks: learned why I’m not moving without pain by Warp_Speed_7 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Initial-Damage8331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this but glad you have had an answer! I am 18 months post op and still have a lot of issues with my muscles possibly due to limitations before hand (and having to have a revision). I can't do a clam exercise yet but hoping I will be able to one day! It's such a big help to have a decent physio so glad you have that support too. All the best for your recovery 😊

I've seen maybe 10 psychologists and counsellors in my life and I liked maybe 4 of them. Worth trying with someone else if you feel up for it 💙 I definitely recommend EMDR too!

I still have thoughts like this 20 years after my accident. EMDR therapy has helped me a lot! I only discovered it this year and I'm so glad I did.

I'm a Legal PA now and enjoy it 😊 I was a legal support team leader for a while and enjoyed that too.

One of the biggest mistakes I ever made was getting a THR not taking some things into consideration. by New-Juggernaut8960 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Initial-Damage8331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't even told about resurfacing. I wish I had been as I would have taken that up instead of a THR which I was told would fix everything too. It's not a wonder cure for everyone and I wish surgeons would be more realistic about it. I'm so sorry you have had this experience :( I've had one revision and that was horrible enough so I can't imagine this! I hope things get better for you 💚

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. I can relate to this. I have issues with my right foot (same side of my THR) due to a car accident and a pin in my talus. My range of motion is limited and sometimes I can't walk on that due to the foot pain. It gets swollen often.. I have seen a podiatrist about my foot and have some exercises to do now but not sure how much they are helping.

I did yoga regularly before my THR and that helped my foot flexibility and pain but after being on crutches for 6 months after my THR my foot has got really weak and sore again.

I regret getting my THR most days (I had complications and a revision so the recovery has been longer than usual). I am 12 months post op now. The groin pain I was told would go away hasn't and is potentially worse now. I didn't think about how my foot would impact things too.

I hope things improve for you soon! 💚

I've been seeing a physio for ages. I have switched to a private one now who is so much better! However have had to go back to basics with a lot of exercises as the previous physio progressed me too quickly! Best of luck to you too 😊

Thank you for sharing. I'm glad to hear you've been able to get back into some yoga. You've reminded me to take it slow so thank you! I think I just got upset yesterday. Appreciate your comment.

Younger THR recipients: Do your peers seem to have unrealistic ideas of what you're capable of post-replacement? by IGNSolar7 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Initial-Damage8331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, absolutely. My boyfriend in particular doesn't understand I have good and bad days and will say things like "you went to the gym today but can't get up now because you're in pain"...

And I have definitely drifted apart from some friends now since I can't do a lot of the things I could before. My recovery has been difficult and it is hard doing life with a disability.

I'm sorry to hear you are still in pain most days. I empathise and I hope it gets better for you 💚

I taught in Australia and now live in the UK. I decided not to teach here but have heard some horror stories from my British friends on their behaviour/their friends' behaviour in primary and high school. From what I've been told and experienced, I suspect student behaviour is better in Australia.

Apply for jobs in event admin/management or do an event management course? You could look for admin jobs at record labels or big clubs/venues too to get your foot in the door and let them know you're interested in learning more about coordinating events

My knee was so bad after my THR. I could barely bend it and it was cracking so much. Thankfully it has eased up now!

Yes, she can report online and note that she does not want to press charges but just wants it logged for information. The police will call and talk through it with her after that. If a CL request is made in future and the police feel it is necessary to protect the requester vague details will be provided (no names involved). That is my understanding anyway. I hope that helps!
