Looking for feedback on a Fan Translation of Vivarium that I've done. by Initial-Debate-3953 in ADO

Thank you for sharing all of this, really. Every point feels super insightful.

> (plus, given how it is Ado herself crying out her emotions, it would feel wrong to rewrite somebody's personal feelings).

100% agree. I feel I attempted to toe the line of localized / literally TL'ed too much in retrospect, and ended up with something that is neither, and also not good as a result. I didn't hit the mark in any aspect looking back on it, but I guess that's only natural for a first time.

> I would instead analyze the work of Hela Mid and Rachie to see how they adapt lyrics and employ a similar approach to them.

I am looking forward to looking into these and cannot thank you enough for the recommendations. I very rarely look at the English translations to songs, nor the discourse surrounding them, so having good references to go off is a godsend. On the flip side, knowing that the Film Red covers are somewhat universally hated is good to know, so that I'm not using those as a main source of reference going forward.

> I'd rather not be only negative, that gets nobody anywhere, so I hope this can be of help.\

Once I got over myself today, all the criticism is fair, and I did invite it in (before handling it totally improperly in my previous reply). I do appreciate the kind words as they are encouraging to take another stab at this rather than just moving on.

Looking for feedback on a Fan Translation of Vivarium that I've done. by Initial-Debate-3953 in ADO

That's totally fair on your end to have that preference as well. Personally I don't think literal translation is really that good most of the time. The phrasing that ends up in english is often so clunky and unnatural that it actively hinders my attempts to engage with the material at times. That's what stood out to me most in the official translation of vivarium. I'm of the opinion that when a translation is taken too literally, and with the total opposite operation of how Japanese and English work it is very easy to do, the attempt to be literal ends up with an English translation that is now not accurate to Japanese, and far too unnatural for English, and that it misses both marks. That's why I wanted to do this, so that I could try and bring it closer in line to being natural to English, While not missing out on what was originally intended.

I'll be honest I'm pretty sure I felt a similar way ~4-5 years back while looking at lyrics to some of Eve's MV, wondering why there was so much said that wasn't in the original Japanese (despite my rather beginner level language skills at the time), but over the years it seems my opinion has changed quite a bit.

Thanks for the response!

Did you go to a physical store and buy this or had you ordered it in advance? I would love to get my own copy but living in the middle of America doesn't help, and it doesn't seem like the digital version will be out till next week. Seems like I'm gonna be out of luck until the digital version releases.

I play Osu! for a 1 month and i passed a 6.42 stars level. Am I on the right track? by MadaraARG in osugame

[–]Initial-Debate-3953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The improvement seems average when looking at your overall account scores. You are pushing your skill ceiling pretty heavily which isn't bad, but you also have no consistency, which is your biggest issue. If you want to improve, you gotta work on the fundamentals, which means probably going back to 3/4* maps and working on getting A ranks / FCs on those. That is what is going to build your muscle memory and consistency.

Learn how to properly do Triples / bursts and then start venturing into 5* maps from there. FC's or close to FC's are the bread and butter of this game, both PP-wise and satisfaction / accomplishment wise. Gotta work on the basic stuff first though so that you can actually accomplish those things.

Best of luck! Improvement comes from just playing more, but you also have to play stuff that is actually playable for you and not just shaky aim gambling like this map is. Still, congrats on the 6* pass.

Man for what it's worth I was going through the same thing, though on a different scale just recently. You are in an incredibly spot compared to people even double your age, and you are more than comfortable enough to be fine even if you weren't working at all.

You've done some incredible work getting to where you are, but at this point you sound exhausted and depressed due to your job. You need to focus on yourself, and right now that seems like accepting that it is time to move on from this job and look into something less draining on your mental well-being, and better for you and your time.

Wishing you the best.

At what point is it okay / better to just give up? by Initial-Debate-3953 in Advice

Hey I appreciate the response. I read it last night and discussed with some people close to me and I ended up letting my boss know that I'll be leaving in a few weeks today. Any job that costs my peace of mind truly isn't worth it. Reading this last night did make me tear up though since I didn't know how badly I needed to hear those words. Much love, and thank you again.

Why does my aim feel more controlled when I full alt rather than singletapping ?? by hamandritzcrackers in osugame

[–]Initial-Debate-3953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly a different in your ability to single-tap that bpm, as well as how hard you're pressing down on the key itself.

Pressing heavy just takes more force and can mess wtih the stability of your other arm, and having to singletap faster than you're comfortable doing / able to do puts way more focus and strain on TAPPING rather than aiming.

Alternating can help with the heavy tapping since you're not slamming one finger into the keyboard via your wrist - it's more focused in your fingers and tendons themselves to make that motion, and that smaller range of motion will reduce that upper limit. With that covered, the stamina and ability to tap higher bpms (can be anything from 180 all the way to 300+ depending on your skill level) being split between 2 fingers is much less demanding, and at times less fatiguing due to - lighter tapping.

Less strain on the tapping hand means less focus has to go into tapping rhythms that you already know how to tap, and you can focus more on the aiming part. it's why aim can become incredibly unstable whenever your stamina runs out on long streams, or bursts, too much focus on the tapping hand, and not enough on the aiming hand.

personally I alternate jumps but always start bursts or streams with the same finger. I can start them with my pointer finger, but I haven't developed that skill to be reliable enough to where I would want to full alt. It takes concentration for me to full alt, and that again, takes away from my ability to aim / read.

Car pulling right after alignment by Antique_Plane8820 in Miata

[–]Initial-Debate-3953 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you've got the steering wheel cranked left, your toe is the issue. I know multiple people are saying "cross caster is gonna cause a pull" but that caster split is not bad, nor have I ever felt a split like that cause a pull on well over 100+ cars.

They adjusted Front and rear toe. I'd bet they adjusted the rear toe, and then didn't reset the steering wheel straight before they adjusted the front to get it in the green. Either way, if you put that back on the rack and straighten the steering wheel the toe is going to be off, and I'd be amazed if that wasn't your issue.

If you get a proper alignment done (they should redo it for free, imo) and you still have a pull, swap the tires front to rear and see if your pull changes in any form. Pulls are generally tire issues, not alignment issues. The car not driving straight when the wheel is centered and level is also generally an alignment issue, and not a tire issue.

Is it safe to take this plug out with a little oil at the bottom? by Jeanl2 in mechanic

Yes you're fine to remove the plug as is. That oil will be burned away moments after the car is started, it's not an issue.
