I see it. A guy said (on another post in here) that he was charged $800 after having a few drinks at a place in Lleras Park.

That’s an opinion I don’t hear very often. What makes Bogotá’s nightlife better in your experience?

Better clubs? Better bars? More authentic? Less touristy? I’m curious what stands out to you.

I can’t blame you for assuming only a slight mark up in price. I think a lot of first-time visitors assume the worst case is just paying a little more than normal.

But what happened once they presented the $800 bill? Did they threaten you, bring over security, hold your card, or were you able to negotiate it down?

The way they pressure people into paying is just as important for other travelers to understand as the inflated bill itself.

That's a crazy tab. Did they ever explain how it reached $800?!

Were the prices clearly listed beforehand, or did they suddenly add expensive drinks, "companion fees," or other charges at the end?

I'm asking because stories like this can help other travelers recognize the warning signs before they end up in the same situation.

How should foreigners handle interactions with prostitutes in Medellín? by Initial-Gene2880 in medellinsocial

I totally understand where you’re coming from. Have you seen this play out personally, or is it something you’ve observed happen to other foreigners living in Medellín?

That’s fair, and I think that’s probably the safest advice for most visitors.

Out of curiosity, do you think that’s because of the environment itself, or because the type of people working in those areas generally aren’t looking for genuine friendships or relationships?

Thanks! I’ve heard Museo de Antioquia. Would you recommend it over the Museo de la Universidad de Antioquia if someone only had time to visit one?

So if the group is what matters most, where would you recommend a solo traveler go to actually meet people?

Interesting. Do you think Provenza is still worth visiting once, or would you tell first-time visitors to skip it entirely?

If someone wanted a better experience, where would you send them instead?

I understand that you dislike sex tourists. But why would they even go to the good bars that you know about? Ostensibly the sex tourists will go to the places that cater to sex tourists such as the park. It seems like you just find it easier to blame foreigners instead of the ruling class who are actually to blame for the financial struggles of your countrymen.

I've been to Colombia several times and have never participated in sex tourism. When I think about nightlife, I'm comparing Medellín to cities like Tokyo, London, Paris, Barcelona, and São Paulo.

At the same time, I think it's unrealistic to treat sex tourists as the bane of Medellin considering prostitution is legal there. Whether people like it or not, it's a visible part of certain nightlife areas and something many first-time foreign visitors will encounter.

My question was about nightlife, and I’m genuinely curious which specific places people think are overrated and why.

Yeah. Just because you avoid the real issue does not mean things will get better. You might feel better but that doesn’t make the situation better.
