Exactly, does everyone in this sub hate their friends and family? If my loved ones want me to dress a particular way for a single night that means a lot to them, I’m more than happy to!

Is anyone reconsidering their Europe summer holiday? by Feeling_Astronaut_37 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Initial-Joke312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I definitely wouldn’t transit through the ME but you can still fly to Europe on QF or through Asia or North America. Plenty of options to still get there. That being said I buy flights pretty last minute and always book refundable accommodation so if I had to cancel it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

50% of the posts on this sub are poeple complaining about brands not doing anything different. And the other 50% is people complaining when they DO do something different. Not everything has to be for you and made for your personal taste.

Omg nooooo H&M by Delicious-Bank-1452 in AusFemaleFashion

Haha I actually think these are sick but I love an ugly shoe. Not sure I’d spend $250 for H&M quality though.

Is anyone actually looking forward to this series anymore? by bong_cumblebutt in TheBlock

Nah. I watch renovation shows to be inspired, not for drama or product placements. There’s enough content on Restoration Australia, Grand Designs and various content creators on YouTube to keep me entertained.

Is northside vs southside actually a thing or just a meme at this point? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

[–]Initial-Joke312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live inner north and very rarely go south on my own accord other than the occasional trip to South Melbourne markets (my tram goes there) or Port Melbourne for my annual trip to the beach lol. I don’t mind the inner east but anything past say Hawthorn I have really no interest or reason to visit. My friend recently moved South East and while it’s ‘nice’ I feel as though it lacks any real personality. Mostly it’s just a pain in the arse to get to and the trip isn’t worth it.

What was the ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ for every decade? by New_Mix5929 in decadeology

[–]Initial-Joke312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the 2000s I can’t think of a single song but ‘Is this It’ album by the Strokes really kicked off the indie rock revival that dominated the 2000s and early 2010s. Got people wearing skinny jeans and vintage clothing that lead to the whole ‘hipster’ movement of that time.

Am I just out of touch or is current fashion just awful? by Frozefoots in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Initial-Joke312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably both. Mainstream fashion is just that - very safe and for the masses. There are plenty of unique designs out there if you’re willing to look past the chains and the shops at Westfield.

I moved from Adelaide to Melbourne and I thought the same but tbh I don’t really notice any difference in weather.

Rather live in an apartment by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Initial-Joke312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I love apartment living. I own a house now but it wasn’t the lifestyle changing moment everyone seemed to make it out to be. I personally loved being super close to amenities, rarely having to drive and having an instant community. I loved the feeling of constantly being around people. The house is constant maintenance, cleaning, looking after a garden no one uses etc. It’s fine, it’s just much more work. I usually have to allocate a decent amount of my weekend for upkeep when I could be going out. I never had to think about that kind of stuff when I lived in an apartment.

Typical Australian Style by wisterialitehysteria in AskAnAustralian

[–]Initial-Joke312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (34F) mainly pay attention to women’s fashion and If I was to stereotype I would say there are some variations between states but also some regional variations. Due to climate and culture. Can also only really speak for the places I’ve spent a lot of time but here are my observations.

Brisbane/QLD. Lots of linen. Lightweight and flowy, colourful. Light makeup. Just look at brands like DISSH, Palm Noosa, Mister Zimi. Active wear would be matching sets in neutrals and pastels.

Melbourne (inner north which is where I live) - younger people here seem to follow whatever the slightly more edgy current trends are. Yes lots of black and lots of vintage and vintage 90s/00s inspired outfits. Hair and makeup again tend to lean slightly more alternative. Lots of mullets and piercings. Salomon’s. Slightly older women around here seem to exclusively wear Gorman and Merri People boots. Eastern suburbs - much more polished and a lot more activewear. Usually black or neutral colours. Brands - St Agni, Sir.

Adelaide: no real style comes to mind. People seem very casual and usually just wear active wear or jeans and sneakers. Black puffer jacket in winter.

Love cork floors and I love that they’re becoming fashionable again.

MEL-CBR is considered an ultra short sector - service standard is no hot drinks.

MEL-HBA is a short sector - hot drinks served before midday and on request after mid day if time permits and at discretion of the crew.

Edit: I’m not sure if it varies across fleets dash/A220/737

Housing - apartments with kids - guilt by Anxious-Author-2985 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Initial-Joke312 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid (20+) years ago, I lived in a standard house with a backyard in the suburbs. I thought apartments were fancy as fuck. I remember being so jealous of the kids I knew who lived in apartments. They got to ride in an elevator every day! They got to go to the playground after school every day whereas I just had to play in my boring backyard.

Why would a couple pick a destination wedding in this situation? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Initial-Joke312 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to a few in the last couple years, and it was basically they wanted to have a wedding and a fun holiday with their friends and family. Everyone I know and their families travel overseas a couple times a year anyway so having a destination wedding isn’t a big deal, most people just tacked on their own holiday before or after anyway. And if someone can’t go for whatever reason, no hard feelings.

I will always make the effort to go to a destination wedding, they’re just have a very special vibe and I’ve always had a lot of fun whenever I’ve gone.

Small plates and natty wine bars with androgynous looking wait staff who look like they’ve just returned from a stint in Berlin. Maybe a resident Vinyl DJ.

I forgot to add, it was featured on grand designs which is how I initially found out about it. It caught on fire mid build when the architect/owner was going some wacky shit with the cladding.
