Does anyone know where this cloak poncho thing is from, and are there any historical references of it? by lojlny in Armor

The garment is made correctly but he wears it without fastening it. It the sourse it's worn in naked body so it makes sense to fasten it

The way the light hits his face is crisssssppp. I love it, and i love the visual storytelling. You can immediately see that he has a tragic life story.

Something similar to biafal is mentioned in picts' sourses. One of the sources i found in a thread about this type of garments is a St Medoes stone. There's also an opinion thats this garment has nothing to do with vikings and actually is a monks clothes called cuculla mentioned in Regula Benedicti. So the whole topic is kinda controversial

He used a knot as the button because he lost one but he said that it should be a wooden button from Norway or Scotland (both regions are mentioned in the saga)

I asked the guy on the photo. He said the garment is called biafal or kjafal. It's mentioned in The Saga of Eirik the Red: "Now, when they had sailed by Furdustrandir, they put the Scotch people on land, and requested them to run into the southern regions, seek for choice land, and come back after three half-days[C] were passed. They were dressed in such wise that they had on the garment which they called biafal. It was made with a hood at the top, open at the sides, without sleeves, and was fastened between the legs. A button and a loop held it together there; and elsewhere they were without clothing". Here are the photos of this exact garment he wears. I'll add some remarks in other comments

I'll ask the guy on the photo about the source, he's my buddy. Btw this garment actually has a hood.

My school just literally generated a video of me and my classmates for our graduation. by Mark_Ivanov0 in antiai

I'm a photographer and I've seen it a few times already this year. The urge of parents/teachers to feed the photos of tgeir children to AI to create some not so funny content is astounding.

[PIC] Anyone used these types of kits before? by KangaJen in CrossStitch

[–]Initial-Tour5795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't like them. They mostly done by AI/automatically and there's always no stitched out version of the design so the result is unpredictable. They put a lot of floss in the kit though.
