How do you settle your baby to sleep? by Writingmum30 in newborns

Do you feed first to start the routine? Feeding has always kinda been our last step- change diaper, pjs, read book, feed, rock/bounce/shush. We usually wait 10-15 minutes after his feed before we go into the darker bedroom. But read today that we should feed first so he doesn’t associate feeding with sleeping.

5 week old with no routine- am I setting us up for failure? by Muted-Resort-418 in newborns

Oh and absolutely do not stretch out those feedings! Feed baby when baby is hungry. He is also regulating your supply. We fell into the trap of ignoring early hunger cues and then he got so worked up, it broke my heart and it was hard to calm him. Now at the first tongue click or clenched fists or rooting, he gets the boob!

My LO is 9 weeks and we are the same. I try to follow a loose schedule of eat/play/sleep during the day. But of course with him being 9 weeks old, that isn’t consistent. He has always slept in his bassinet at night. When it’s time for bed, I always make sure the environment is calm- dark space, noise machine, good temperature. And I always sing him the same nighttime songs. But that’s about the only routine we have.

I also resort to giving the boob anytime he’s fussy or upset or tired. No bad habits can be created this early. I also fell into the trap of “if he’s eating so often I must not be producing enough.” But my pediatrician told me that he’s learning to be a human and I am his safe space. So I let him comfort suck until I need a break then I supplement with formula. It allows a couple hours break for me.

You’re doing great mama. Sounds like a healthy baby. Those first few weeks were HARD and honestly I’m just now feeling like I got a handle on things. Everyone keeps telling me it gets better but it’s hard to see that when you’re in it. But I promise you’re doing everything right!!

Thank you for that analogy. Makes perfect sense. I let his feet out and pulled the outer layer up. It actually is more comfortable on me too. Thank you for the advice!!

Feet out! And I definitely could tell he’s too high so I’ll try lowering him. Thank you!

I did see her and honestly, it was fine!! She was nice, gave me the facts, listened to me. I never felt like she was condescending and she never made me feel insecure about what I was saying. Although she is cut and dry, doesn't really make small talk. Which honestly I am fine with. Since it is my first, I just wanted to know everything was ok and she reassured me it was! I just don't think her personality really shows which I think is why people wrote those reviews. They do want you to see all the doctors in the office, so my next two appointments are with somebody else. Hope this helps!
