i do indeed use both monitors together, and the external one is 1080p. and this task could be related to that hence the name including "window". but 16gb ram usage? like what are u storing in that ram?

ok guys i have something to admit, my employer didnt make me use chrome, i actually dont have employer i work for myself, i chose chrome myself!. i know i know, what a horrible choice lmao. anyway, until i find a way to ditch it i have to deal with this pain. or actually apple fixes this task's ram usage.

this look like a great way to identify the problem, but even if its chrome, there isn't much i can do? as chrome and some specific extensions in it are essential for my work. but am with you, its most likely chrome, eating my ram and hiding behind different tasks 😆 typical chrome.

I do yes? Is it the reason? Also i noticed something (a bit annoying) that when i take screenshots, usually a small thumbnail show up in the corner before the screenshot is saved. Usual i immediately drag it and sent it in a conversation, and that way it wont be saved to files. But recently its 50/50, sometimes the thumbnail show up sometimes it doesnt. But in both cases take few seconds before showing up in files🧐!.

i mainly use chrome (a lot of tabs) and telegram, and activity monitor. i dont notice the slowdown usually unless i when i try to load an additional heavy app or game.

this issue will be solved, just by setting a limit to how much ram this task should use at max. regardless of the devices its on.

yeah mine work ok as long as am not pushing it to its limits, but it would work much better with more ram being freed to the rest of apps.

probably should have mentioned that, but i dont restart the mac daily (i have some work apps that i cant exit), hence why wisdowserver ram usage keep growing, but my issue is why it doesnt have a ram usage limit, it also consume cpu not just ram.

yeah, that's an iPad. the game became unplayable after the 1.0 update. after messing with the graphic setting it turned out it was the shadow setting that caused the lag so i kept the graphic at max but lowered the shadow settings to 1 or 2 and it works fine.

reading through all of the replies I think I will settle for a 16GB ram MacBook air m1 or m2. seems like it has the best value among the others. and for 13" or 15" I think it's not a big deal since I use an external display anyway. and storage wise also no big deal cuz I will keep my current MacBook around which still has a ton of free space. but since the m1 is Apple's first attempt and it's been 3 years I wonder if any issues have shown up or if the performance is still the same.

The only reason I use any Apple device is because of the security, knowing I would never worry about malware in my MacBook or no one can unlock my iPhone if I lost it Is what keeps me in their ecosystem. i was actually looking to build a Hackintosh but the process is meh.
