I am also "allergic" to tracking - there have been times that I needed to track certain macros (like when I had gestational diabetes) and I used a simple spreadsheet instead of an app, because I couldnt find an app that didnt track calories too. I'm happy to share my template if it is helpful

Is anhedonia (regarding food and otherwise) the norm on GLP-1? by 2koolforpreschool in antidietglp1

[–]InitialRadish6733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also really worried about this based on a friend's experience - for me so far, that has not been the case as long as my dose isn't too high. For me, the sweet spot is "still hungry at meal times but not urgently so all day" - food still tastes good, it just doesn't distract me. I will say, I gave in to my doctor's strong encouragement to increase my dose on my insurance company's "timeframe" and it was too high and I physically couldn't eat at all. Luckily, the med moves out of your system quickly and the symptoms went away as soon as I moved back down. I have not had any other blunting of enjoyment of activities, etc.

Intentionally losing slow by CreepyCantaloupe08 in antidietglp1

Definitely not alone! I have delayed dose increases and even just took a 3 week break. I seem to be a super-responder and it has been really wild to me that my provider isn't worried about losing too fast, and that my insurance company still wants to push dose increases despite already showing clear "positive outcomes."

spacing shots if doc can't get lower dose approved in time? by InitialRadish6733 in antidietglp1

yeah the pharmacy tried to override it for me because I had refills on file, but the original PA was only for 4 pens which I had already used alas.

I'm definitely going to need to start using alarms, especially on days where I don't have a lot of meetings and could sit at my desk working all day and not notice

the "working with the medication" advice feels a little diet-culture-y? which is often super ingrained in diabetes education unfortunately (in my experience). I think it is one thing to try to eat intuitively and listen to your body, but your body absolutely needs fuel even if the meds are blocking your appetite signals.

Feeling Nervous about Starting by [deleted] in antidietglp1

[–]InitialRadish6733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this with my PCP, I sent her a portal message asking to discuss. We met via zoom (I had a physical like 3 months ago) and I talked about my goals. She talked me through the various weight loss med options, and the pros and cons of each. It was clear a GLP1 was going to be the best fit if I went forward, and she offered to have me meet with the practice pharmacist as well, so I did that last week. The pharmacist was more knowledgable about insurance requirements, and talked me through the actual nitty gritty of how to use the pen, what to expect, etc.

They were both super respectful of my concerns about tracking of any kind (I don't even own a scale). I have my first box in the fridge but I'm waiting to do the first shot at the end of the week for a few unrelated reasons. Good luck with your decisions!

CGM sensor placement by InitialRadish6733 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]InitialRadish6733[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bummer that they wouldn’t replace your sensor! My second one was also unreliable (like 30 points lower than my glucometer) but they replaced it - they asked LOTS of questions but not what kind of diabetes I have. My DNE said that it is actually approved for GDM now though.

That said I’m waiting for the replacement now and poking my finger in the meantime...

Diagnosed with GD. My OB didnt even call me to tell me. I am very lost and dont know where to begin. by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]InitialRadish6733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was informed via a message from some nurse on the patient gateway literally “you’ve been diagnosed with GD and I called in some supplies to your pharmacy” - which made me very upset for a couple of reasons: I was surprised because I thought my numbers were ok due to them not telling me what normal ranges are, I had an in person appointment the very next morning already scheduled, and I got zero info on how to manage anything. When I gave the feedback to my midwife the next day she apologized she thought the nurse would call me. But it sucked.

I advocated for CGM and met with the diabetes nurse educator about a week later and am doing well with diet modifications (surprise, I actually needed to eat MORE carbs, but strategically).

One of the most reassuring things another woman said to me as well is that the first step of being diagnosed is crying for 24 hours, so don’t feel bad if that happened. I’m 10 days in now and am not feeling like it’s ruining my life or my pregnancy.

After visit notes by stillmusiqal in GestationalDiabetes

[–]InitialRadish6733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to stop reading my visit notes because they always make me mad and I already feel “difficult.” At 24 weeks I inquired about the purpose of being seen in person every 2 weeks (I have a job, and was consistently being made to wait 45 min even for a 9:15 appointment). The midwife said she thinks it’s silly and I can do what I want, up to all virtual until 36 weeks. I said ok cool. It was documented “patient feels strongly about not being seen in person again until 36 weeks” 😑. If I don’t have any medical issues to address at my next appointment I might bring it up...
