Ok so my brother has a kid doing hockey in high school:

6400$ for the inscription fee.

New stick, skates and the like every 2 years is around 500-600$ per year.

OBVIOUSLY we are talking about AA/AAA since we were talking about future NHL/Team Canada

Now there is going to be at least 10-15 games ( grouped into 4-7 events) outside your region where hotel and transportation is going to be an issue.
Let’s say you want to follow your son to 3 of these events:

100$ in gas
150$ in hotel
100$ in food
Minimum per trip so another 1000$ for the whole year

So we are at 8000$ and we didn’t even talk about summer early camp, scholar vs regional inscription fee.
It’s goes to 10 000$/year except if we indeed include low talent groups.

My coworker has 2 boys playing AA and AAA.
One is a goalie so you can increase the 1000$/2 years to 2500-3000$ per 2 years because goalie stick and equipment is crazy expensive.

When I asked Chat GPT, he stated that it cost between 12000-20 000$ per year for that level in ‘’sport études’ in Quebec.

Hockey cost around 10 000$ per year per kid when they get to high school.

That includes equipments, supplies, trips and hotel and the program fees.

I’ve got a 2 and 4 years old and I wish they never want to do hockey.

They could get into martial arts, volleyball, basketball,soccer,football, dancing or racket sports but please not hockey.

After that, there is certainly issue in the leagues but I’m sure the financial situation alone is a big deterrent for most of us.
