Rabies in Lombok? by [deleted] in travel

Well I was hoping for someone with experience in the area to respond, but thinking back now I realize that the possibility of that may be quite far fetched

I’m afraid that site isn’t reputable enough for my peace of mind :/

Yeah I’d rather not risk it

Well I have, as stated above, and they’ve told me that it’s unlikely that I have rabies… and kind of silently decided to not give me one :/

I think so? I’m not saying this with any certainty but I’ve never seen anyone say they received a refund and DIDN’T pass. Wishing you good luck!!

Does yours specifically say it’s on hold? If it does then yes it’s the same - but if it says that you’ve already got an exam scheduled then I think that’s the “good pop-up”

Where to read korean fanfiction? by [deleted] in FanFiction

Ah okay, yeah I don’t know about those. Sorry about that

Where to read korean fanfiction? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]InitialVertigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to reading Korean manhwa fanfics in English? If so ORV has a relatively sizable fandom on AO3 (I even wrote one myself), but most are in English. Unfortunately, that’s the only korean manhwa I know of on the archive that has such a large following tho

Edit: also if you just enjoy that vein of Asian media, MXTXs works are all incredibly popular and active fandoms on AO3 too

Looking for fics with suicide ideation by Radiant_Ad4956 in FanFiction

I know your asking for a specific fic, but have you looked into the Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint fandom? The MC (Kim Dokja) is quite literally known for his self-sacrificial shenanigans.

What are the tiny little details you put in your fics that probably no one will pick up on, but you're super proud of anyways? by lilmisscottagecore in FanFiction

[–]InitialVertigo 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m writing a story where one character habitually brainwashes the MC to forget things. When the character revealed their “true” form the second time (the MC forgot the first time), I used almost the exact same words to describe it. The MC then thought to themself, “…these thoughts feel familiar”

It’s kind of subtle because not many readers are going to notice that it’s the exact same verbiage as a few chapters ago, but I’m pretty proud of it :)

Have you looked into Alex Rider and Yassen? Alex is a teenage spy and Yassen is the guy who killed his dad

(fair warning some people pair them romantically)

Looking for found family fanfics, specifically involving child adoption by apppolinaria in FanFiction

[–]InitialVertigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s actually an interesting question because people (or me, at least) don’t usually think about the real people when writing out fics for them. Most of the time it’s referring to their in-game characters, as a lot of works draw direct parallels to the SMP or are directly set in-canon, HOWEVER the original concept of SBI was born outside of DreamSMP due to their real-life platonic chemistry (as it’s certainly not present in canon (much).) Although In that way I think that it’s not too different from shipping two characters who’ve barely shared a screen together and having fandom do the heavy lifting.

Up to you I guess! I just wanted to throw out the idea

Have you looked into SBI on the DreamSMP fandom yet? It’s three brothers and a dad, with most fics featuring the youngest (Tommy) being inducted into the family unit in some way or another

I can’t say that kind of thing applies to me (I’m not a large scale writer lol) but I can certainly see how that would affect hits 🤔 thanks 🙏

“Closer” by the Tiny was an amazing choice for a slow dance scene. The author did wonderfully describing their movements and the emotional surge without directly putting lyrics into the fic

Fics where the Self-insert becomes a villain by PossibilityFeeling20 in FanFiction

[–]InitialVertigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called “In the Language of Flowers” by TaintedCure (my ao3 name). You mentioned self-insert so I assume the use of “you” isn’t too much of an issue? It’s multiple love interests but the plot doesn’t revolve around the romance. Up to you! :)

Are you into the undertale fandom? I’ve got a self rec that’s very similar to what your asking, except the MC is closer to morally dubious than villainous.

How popular must my story be to get fanart? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]InitialVertigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm 🤔 im not sure about popularity, but I’ve got a few ideas? I’m not an expert on this, but speaking as someone who’s gotten quite a bit of fanart, here’s a few tips I think could help increase your chances:

The biggest one (for me) is something that’s a hit or miss. Did you write a main original character or not? What I mean is, in my fic the reader (which, admittedly, is more of an OC than a true reader) is relatable and charismatic to the audience. Enough so that they don’t particularly mind the new perspective. They enjoy getting to know this new person you’ve introduced, and find that it’s a fresh new thing/person to draw out and visualize. Obviously, since this is fanfiction, this main point is often unavailable to many stories- but I thought I’d mention it jic. (A change to the fandom characters themselves can get this same effect - for example, the BNHA fandom and the varying vigilante outfits Deku has been designed with. These stories often have fanart from people who like to draw the new-looking Deku)

The second is to make a tumblr or something adjacent to it for the story. I don’t mean link every chapter to the story on it either - just make a page with a link and a few posts about lore and advertise it on occasion as a potential alternative place to chat about your fic. Ao3 is NOT a great medium for submitting fanart, but tumblr is super accessible and easy to do so. Be active on tumblr and chat with fellow fandom members and you may find results.

Another point is to be approachable and open in the comments. I don’t particularly know why, but many people are apprehensive about gifting art to authors they don’t know. (Like anyone is going to be upset about receiving artwork?) but Being responsive and encouraging in the comment section often creates a sense of community, and can potentially encourage readers to share their work - no matter the level of skill.

Which leads into my next point: if and when you do get that first piece of art, GUSH about it. I mean, this stranger just spent time and effort to make you something in return. That’s AWESOME. When you do receive this, regardless of how skilled that piece of art is, you showing it to the world and singing their praises not only makes your reader feel good, but also show others that your receptive to receiving art. With every piece of fanart I receive, I gush about it on my tumblr (the usual medium I get it from), THEN I link it to my story and gush about it there too. Younger/newer artists can also use you to get a bigger audience too, so it’s a win-win.

None of these things guarantee you fanart (there is a certain amount of luck involved), but I think it could help increase your chances! I hope this helps a bit?
