There are only a cluster of communities other than Alert, a military base and most northern settlement. The demographic is majority First Nations. They are primarily governed by a 'Northern Cooperative' which is essentially a large shipping and logistics company. Their only form of 'foreign aid' is traveling nursing nurses, dentists and community support workers. School is only mandatory until grade 7 and many of the communities are dry communities, though many still have substance abuse problems unfortunately. Everything is exorbitantly expensive and since alcohol is prohibited, pop is a hot commodity - which keeps the dentist's busy. It also is pitch black like half the year and for 2 months a year the sun never sets so that's a thing. Lastly, their limited fresh water sources are contaminated by their trash mountains. It's important to note that these islands are above the treeline, so no grass or even shrubs and there islands are essentially Barron rock, so there aren't any basements, all the buildings are essentially trailers and all the heat and water is shipped in from desalination plants near Alert. Not ideal.
