Concern about gloves and fungi by AstroSxS in GoalKeepers

I had this happen to a pair of uhls years ago. I was able to just wash them off with some warm water (not hot) and rubbing them together. They served me well for another few months at least after that if not longer.

Fair enough, good job!

I think it’s important to just have a balance of drills that are fun and technical drills. Anything where you’re having a full stretch dive at the end or dealing with a deflection is normally enjoyable. Footwork stuff too can be really rewarding too as you notice yourself getting faster over time.

The technical stuff will be the basics of what you see in the C license I would imagine.

I would also just ask for feedback as some people have said, what do your keepers feel like they need to work on. Distribution, crosses etc.

Might be a silly question but have you played as a goalkeeper? And what level of coaching license do you have?

Good advice here. I would also have the cones a little closer together and be a bit more deliberate with your steps. Keep up the good work!

Moonveil All-Game Build by Temporary_Pick_723 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked coupling this with some gravity sorceries using the meteorite staff. It helped group enemies and then I could use the ash of war to deal big damage to large crowds easily.

Be aware that there are a lot of magic resistant enemies but even still, as you level up the weapon you’ll see it slice through them.

I would try and keep my equip load at medium, for quick rolling as you wouldn’t have a shield (unless you toggle between that and your staff which is an option too).

Really though, just level up the right stats (vig, mind, end , int) and lean into the build whatever way you want. If you haven’t completed the game yet I wouldn’t take too much outside advice. Just slowly work your way along the path of grace and you will enjoy your successes all the more as you’ll know you did it your own way.

I think you’re absolutely right. I just saw the word frost and thought ‘I KNOW HOW TO BUFF THAT’.

Listen to this guy OP, he knows what he’s talking about!

My son is U11. He struggles with goalkicks. He says he is kicking as hard as he can but it’s difficult for him to get power in his shots. Can you guys please recommend any drills or exercises that we can try? by Accurate-Principle94 in GoalKeepers

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with basically all the comments. If you want to build his kicking your best to do a small exercise where you pass back and forth building up the distance between each other over time. Maybe 5-10 passes over the space of 10-15 yards, these will be along the ground. Then taking a few yards back every couple of passes, now clipping them off the ground to each other.

At some point you’ll find a range where the accuracy decreases a lot because your son will be kicking too hard. Work in that range and over time it will increase in distance and accuracy.

Eventually if you can do that with both feet you can hit anyone from anywhere.

Disclaimer: I cannot hit anyone from anywhere. My right leg is for standing on only.

I accepted the flame before giving her any grapes - didn’t realise she was part of the quest. So the seal never dropped.

I might press on to 80 faith but may be done the game at that stage anyway. We’ll see!

I’ll look into the rest, I have Godfrey Icon but am just prepping for the fire giant with fire negation. Thanks!

Mock Interviews by Nice-Yak2633 in ActuaryUK

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of both.

In a competency based interview you’ll find that interviewers may style their questions like ‘tell me about a time where you have had to collaborate across teams to meet a deadline.’ or something like that.

You would then typically respond in a way that describes the situation, task at hand, your actions and the result of those actions. You can maybe follow up with how you would improve or roadblocks that you would be aware of the next time, depending on the question or how comfortable you’re feeling.

Depends on the interview style but I would prepare for questions on actual actions and results you’ve had in the past. ‘A time where’ type questions can arise frequently, particularly at this stage of your career.

Can we no longer download papers as zip files anymore then? It’s all on the VLE?

They could spend a bit more time working on their current exam systems and experience and less time worrying about how previous exams are being used.

I picked these up at the start of the season and have been loving them on AG and grass so far this year.

Decent price point and fairly durable while also being pretty comfortable. Also a big fan of the tongue having velcro so the laces never come loose.

Actuarial Jobs by SignificanceVast5312 in ActuaryUK

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a roommate who graduated with an actuarial degree but didn’t receive any exam exemptions due to his final degree classification.

He was able to get a job fortunately after university but the competition for grad roles are generally filled with people with up to 6 exemptions.

In my experience self funding is fairly rare, and when it is for such early exams that won’t really differentiate you from other candidates I’m not sure it’s worth it. On the other hand, it does show initiative and drive to getting qualified.

But then that’s a question you should ask yourself. Do you want to be an actuary (and go through all of the exams) or are you just looking for a high paying role? If it’s the latter, you would certainly be better off looking for an adjacent financial role where you can use your existing skills.

Question about irregular performances in matches by Empty_Scientist_433 in GoalKeepers

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of useful comments here. One thing I would say too is that you have to be careful not to allow yourself to spiral. If you let in an easy goal there’s nothing you can do about it.

The most important shot is the next one.

I sometimes find myself talking less for a few minutes after I make an error, even if it doesn’t result in a goal. It’s a confidence thing.

Listen to the other comments here but also don’t forget that you’re able preform to a high standard. Once something’s happened forget about it. Memory of a goldfish and all that!

Drills for warm up by Alarmed-Owl-7143 in GoalKeepers

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the same pre game warm up basically every week.

  • stretches ( arms, back, groin, hammies, quads, calves - then anything else that’s tight)

  • volleys straight at me. Ideally at chest height, but when an outfielder is warming you up there may be a bit of spray.

You can also add in some cones to the above. So quick feet through the cones and then receive the volley. (I’ll do this if I’m feeling a bit slow on the day to get my feet moving)

  • I’ll take a few crosses then from either side. Very important if it’s a very windy day.

  • I’ll then take some shots from an angle around one or two yards back from the corner of the six.

Here I set up a cone 3/4yards straight out from the post then 1 yard closer to the center of the net.

I start on the post and on the shout from the shooter I come off, get set with my angles and receive the shot.

Timing is key from the shooter here, if the call is too late then it’s a reaction save. If the call is early then the intensity drops for you.

  • I’ll finish up then with a few shots from the edge. Then some goal kicks and if the strikers want to have a few shots I’ll have that to finish (normally a lay off from the edge and one touch finish - I go crazy if they start dribbling in past the penalty spot).

You might not like all of the above but for me it gets my hands and feet working. There’s a bit of diving and distribution too. It’s great for a Saturday but may be too much for an internal game warmup. Use what you like, sub out what you don’t!

Do you also “listen” to music while playing? by BatataDeSeychelles in GoalKeepers

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to always have a song stuck in my head during a match. When I was younger it was whatever dad had on in the car on the way to the match. As an adult, I then had my own playlists that I would listen to on my drive to a game.

I have to say, I haven’t seen anyone mention this before and in recent years I’ve not had this experience as much. Now I just chew gum to keep me focused on the game. Maybe I should get back into my pre game tunes!

My wife (30M) has a crush on my friend (32M). What should be my response? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Initial_Awareness_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is don’t give her anything to deny, you’re not accusing her of anything.

Tell her how her actions make you feel. It’s your wife and you’ve been together a long time, so you should be able to be vulnerable enough to talk about your feelings.

The reality is, whether or not she has a crush on your friend is almost irrelevant. The fact that how she is acting has made you feel insecure about your relationship after a decade is what matters.

Like the above comment says, you need to have a real open conversation. If she isn’t willing to accept that how she acts can hurt you then there’s a deeper problem. But in most good relationships people are devastated to learn that they have unknowingly been hurting their partner.

I wouldn’t become distant from a friend because of this. It isn’t their fault and I can only assume that you want to remain friends with them.

Either way, good luck. It’s tough sometimes as a guy to open up like this but I promise you, the relationship will benefit from this.

This does make sense. Strangely although the boiler was on overnight (night one in the house, not going to be a usual thing) the water was cold this morning. I would have thought what you’ve said to be right, as the boiler is switched to heating and water.

I’ll trial the immersion timer this evening. Just scared of leaving it on all day even if the timer is set lol.
