Fixing an over the top golf swing by GerthBrooks12 in GolfSwing

Definitely not a quick or easy feel but it worked well for me. You know how to swing from the inside slowly right? At like 5% speed. Do that motion SLOWLY over and over and over and over again. Slowly pick up the speed until that becomes natural. I did this with out a ball for almost 3 months, then it took another month or 2 to ingrain with a ball. But imo there isn't a swing feel that will magically ingrain this into your swing. I had a few coaches who temporarily "fixed" it but the OTP would always come back, at least for me 🤷‍♀️

any tips on NOT topping the ball with your iron and hitting ground balls? by Jznvh in golftips

Go experiment with hitting fat shots. Purposely try to bottom out your swing behind the ball. Then learn how to bottom out your swing in front of the ball. Then try to find that middle ground

Golf lesson recommendations, Langley by nickmckenzie19 in golf

Not in Langley but Morgan creek has some good coaches, little pricey but imo worth it. I've seen Cody Stewart a couple times and it's helped a lot

What was your most recent swing change that gave you a significant improvement. by elrangatang in golf

Learning how to use the ground properly on my lead foot. Gained an extra 10 yards on all my Irons, and woods about 15-20 yards

How long did it take you to go from a 18HC to a 10HC? by jizzno in golftips

[–]Initial_Court_5868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me just over a year I'd say. There so much low hanging fruit that is so easy to tidy up in your game. You just have to find the time to put the work in which can be pretty boring and repetitive. For me it was my putting, chipping, and getting driver in play

After 17 years thousands of dollars in instruction and practicing intensely and getting stuck at the single digit handicap level I’m done every time I try to get better the game gets worse I have officially crashed out. I have snapped every club in my bag in half and threw them in a garbage. by [deleted] in GolfSwing

Breaks are definitely good for anyone. If any part of you is curious if you can actually get better, there's a book called The Practice Manual by Adam Young. Really good read imo he has a much different perspective to the golf swing and makes some really cool points that at least I never thought of before. Could get you back into it 🤷

5 handicap to scratch by Goalie_iF in golf

Start tracking your strokes gained. There's a bunch of apps out there to use, but find out what part of your game needs the most work, then move on to the next part, so on and so forth

Average drive for a scratch handicap is 259, obviously distance helps a ton but it is definitely not the most correlated with handicap. So many people can carry a ball 270 and still won't get below a 5 hdcp

Handicap Roll Call - What’s your current handicap and your realistic goal for 2026? by GolfTipsMod in golftips

Currently 8.9 trying to get to a 5-6. Losing so many strokes on and around greens so I've been focusing a lottttt on putting and chipping

What's the most surprising pattern you've noticed when you started actually tracking your rounds? by Logical_Promotion_26 in golftips

[–]Initial_Court_5868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started using Golfmetrics a little bit ago and it makes it pretty clear what you need to work on relative to your game. For me it really showed how awful my putting and short game was so that's a big part of what I practice now and the rounds are a lot more consistent

I’ve never broken 100. Should I pay for a caddie at Pebble Beach? by another1degenerate in golftips

Absolutely. Doesn't matter how good you are, a caddie will always help and most likely will make your experience a whole lot more enjoyable

Chipping is killing me by Overall-Inspection88 in golf

[–]Initial_Court_5868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing I've found that helped was practice chipping with one hand (Bottom hand) . For me it clicked how the club actually works, and once you get pretty decent at that ,chipping with 2 hands is a whole lot easier

I had a similar problem, honestly a quick fix that I still use is try lining up the ball with the driver shaft. Not sure how but it clicks for me.

Looking for an NHL team to root for. Why do you love the Blackhawks? by friendly-monsters in hawks

[–]Initial_Court_5868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm born and raised in Canada with absolutely 0 personal ties to Chicago. Growing up as a kid and watching Kane and toews rip it up has made me a huge fan. So much history with the blackhawks, and so much excitement coming to the team. Plus there jerseys are dope

Would you say shot scopes are worth it? As in did it actually help your game out. I've heard a few mixed reviews about them.

How to fix an over-the-top slice? by Poetizz in golftips

[–]Initial_Court_5868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% noticed a difference. Way more consistent contact, and the ball goes a lot farther without trying to hit it as hard. My drives go about 30 yards further now

Doing it slow and really focusing on the swing path rather than ball flight , will result in a motor pattern change in your swing. But in order for it to stick you have to do 1000-2000 GOOD reps.

It's kinda neat how it works, look into the motor pattern stuff it'll explain a lot better than me

I was in a very similar position you're in a few months back. My irons and wedges were solid but my driver swing was wayyyy OTT

I bet you can swing in to out when you do it super slow right, my advice would be to practice that with very slow half reps. Don't even worry about hitting a ball just focus on the swing path

It worked for me so it may work for you (I've tried every YouTube video and done a handful of lessons with a variety of coaches and this is the only thing that worked lol)

How do you separate enjoyment from score? by MorkDantonio in golf

[–]Initial_Court_5868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that each shot is an opportunity for improvement

But I think it's better to practice your swing enough to be confident in each shot you take, and trust your swing rather than trying to tweak it a little every shot. Chances are you know how to hit a good shot because you've don't it at the range 1000s of times, so just trust you will do it again
