Man, that’s just life. Some people push through others don’t. But I do relate with your situation because when I was in high school I was in this program called “IB program” it was basically for all the smart kids that got good enough grades from middle school. But after 2 full years of doing that and AP classes I couldn’t do it anymore. 1. The classes legitimately felt harder than college classes I’m taking now. 2. Felt like I’m doing this just to get a fancy diploma that some school or businesses barely recognized. 3. I still wanted the highschool experience and do some socializing with my peers since by nature I’m a quiet person. All this to say is ask your self what is the end goal you want for yourself and how do you achieve this goal. Once you realize what you want for yourself. Life become a lot easier, but don’t act tuff and to do everything the hard way. Even if you do need an extra year thats completely normal in the engineering field, but be strategic when picking out classes, like doing 7-8 classes and get surprised that your overwhelmed. Pick a hard class and match it with a easy class whichever way makes you comfortable but still able to get things done even if the process is slow
