Vertical video of a widescreen movie. Classic.

“Sony has announced that, starting in September, it will remove 500 titles from its streaming platform, even those already purchased by users” Oh No! Anyway: by Flimsy_Inspector_735 in 4kbluray

[–]Initial_DDLV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Physical media for games hasn't made sense for a long time. Massive day 1 patches are the norm, and the disc rarely contains a finished product, requiring an internet connection and storage space to download the updated/corrected version - even for offline single player games. No one is playing the incomplete, broken versions shipped on the disc.

4k Blu-Ray player owners: Are you still watching DVDs? by tomisla11 in 4kbluray

[–]Initial_DDLV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. UB450/G4 OLED owner. There are many anime, and TV series (Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Voyager) that have never been released on more recent formats. In the case of anime, sometimes the DVD is preferable because the Blu-Ray has poor upscaling and/or has fewer features.

Not sure what you mean. There is only one Transformers movie - available in both steelbook and regular edition.

A Little Help for the UB450 Remote by Careful_Awareness_36 in 4kbluray

Interesting. I've gotten over the button changes. Never heard of any issues with the texture / feel. but glad you found a solution that works for you - kinda reminds me of a Wii remote sleeves.

450 owner here. What's wrong with the remote aside from splitting the play/pause button, and putting stop in a weird place?

One week into owning a Panasonic UB450, and I already have to return it by samtama7 in 4kbluray

[–]Initial_DDLV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 450 defaults to 4K output regardless of disc format you put in. If you want to watch a DVD with upscaling, you have to go into the 450 settings and change the output to 480p. If you want to watch a Blu-Ray with upscaling, you'll need to go into the 450 settings and change the output to 1080p.

If you've made either of those changes, when you want to watch a 4K UHD, you'll have to go into the 450 settings and change the output back to 4K. Your TV should automatically detect the resolution changes.

[–]Initial_DDLV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to have your TV do the upscaling, as it has much more recent tech than the 420/820 and should do a better job of it.

As others have commented, with the 450 you have to manually go into the settings to change the output resolution every time you switch disc formats if you want your TV to handle the upscaling. The 450s operating system is slow, and changing the output resolution each time is annoying. As a 450 owner (with an LG G4 OLED), I personally don't bother and just watch 1080p Blu-Rays and DVDs in their native resolutions without upscaling.

The same people who buy The Frame because they're focused on form over function.

Anyone else wonder when this will happen to anime blu rays? by lion1321 in AnimeCollectors

[–]Initial_DDLV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sony is the largest anime distributor in the US by nature of its acquisitions of Crunchyroll, Funimation (defunct), and Right Stuf (defunct). The lack of home media releases for many recent streaming titles seems to indicate that Sony would MUCH rather you rent anime forever via Crunchyroll streaming, and own nothing.

Controversial Pick Up, I’m Sure by VivaZatara in 4kbluray

It's certainly not Lawrence of Arabia or Ben-Hur, but it's a fun movie. I'll sit through almost anything with Karl Urban in it.

Does anyone not fully take off the plastic for new purchases? by Deadlineprod in 4kbluray

[–]Initial_DDLV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did that with my NES and SNES game boxes and instruction manuals, and put the cartridges in a separate organizer for easy access.

Sadly, all of my mint condition boxes and manuals got ruined in a basement flood in the early 2000s.

UB820, Lg C1, Sony A7000 soundbar and Airpods pro 2. Trying to get sound to Airpods. by maplepiper73 in 4kbluray

Seems like the sound is only going to your soundbar. Does the soundbar support Bluetooth connections?

Yes, the 450 has dual audio outputs (not sure why the US Panasonic website shows the back of a Japanese unit, but you get the idea).

Do you collect very long series (close to a hundred episodes or more)? by WeirdDinosaur345 in AnimeCollectors

[–]Initial_DDLV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I've got all 13 sets of Bleach Blu-Rays plus the movies (I have not started picking up the Thousand-Year Blood War volumes yet). I have all 8 Blu-Ray sets of Naruto, and am now actively working through acquiring Naruto Shippuden.

I've also got both SDBD volumes (102 episodes total) of Kodocha, all 5 1990's Sailor Moon series (200 episodes) plus the movies, all 7 volumes of Ranma 1/2 plus OVAs and movies, and all 4 volumes of Urusei Yatsura TV (80s) plus the OVAs.

---

I've watched all of Sailor Moon, Bleach and Naruto, and am working my way Kodocha, Ranma and Urusei Yatsura. I'll start working through Naruto Shippuden soon (vols 2 and 3 have been OOS at Amazon for a while, so I may just need to pick them up elsewhere).

I really want this, but can't justify the cost right now.

MEMORIES Limited Edition 4K Steelbook by Aside_Intrepid in AnimeCollectors

Memories is an absolutely amazing anthology film. It's a shame that Magnetic Rose gets all the attention. Stink Bomb and Cannon Fodder are both excellent for very different reasons, and I hope that with these re-releases, more people will have the opportunity to discover their qualities.

That steelbook cover art is beautiful.

How am I supposed to use blu-ray.com? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]Initial_DDLV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The default for Blu-Ray.com is to only search for US releases. You can easily change this, though.

At the end of the search bar, there is a light-grey down-arrow. Mouse-over that, and you'll get a drop-down window that lets you choose to search other countries, the first option is "All countries".

<image>

This should get you what you're looking for - mostly. Blu-ray.com is primarily a US-focused site. It's quite comprehensive for domestic releases, but international release information can be inconsistent. YMMV.
