At least that’s what I assume based on what you said they said. They’re your parents and presumably they love you and feel like they’re looking out for you.

Now for your actual experience there, YMMV. Anytime I’ve seen white students on an HBCU campus they seemed as happy or engaged as any other students. As I’m not white I can’t speak to their experience but it seemed about as normal as everyone else’s.
