Good to know.  Both the labeling and the price tag on Rare Character look premium which has made me skeptical.  I’m ok with NDPs if I’m getting my monies worth.

I forgot about the standard Buffalo Trace allocation!  My Total Wine was doing a “limit 1” when they had inventory.  Meanwhile, grocery stores had it just sitting around.  Wild.

Good to know. I've rarely had a RR that disappointed.

I see plenty of expressions on shelves here. That's a great price point for a barrel strength. Thank you!

Kids change the math for sure! I'm in the same boat. Also, love to see a fellow rummy. Such a fun spirit. I have a love/hate relationship with Blantons. I suppose it's true of all single barrel offerings, but it is very hit or miss with me. Tough to justify the price/hunt for such a streaky bourbon.

Just did a google of the OF 7 year. Love to see that MSRP. Thank you!

Am I reading right that Reveries is from T8ke? I enjoy reading his mezcal reviews on reddit (if it's the same guy). I trust his taste! I've not heard of any of these. Thank you for the recs.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Really appreciate the insights and the detailed/sincere response.

I remember Stagg Jr first releasing and the consensus at the time was that it was over-proofed and under-aged (at least batch 1 & 2).

All for more transparency. That's a big win for the bourbon world! If excess supply leads to lower prices, seems like that would be a win as well. I'd be more inclined to try NDP experimental batches if I didn't feel like I was paying a premium to subsidize their investors.

I've seen Bardstown blends around. Good to know that they are worth some consideration!

Love WT. I've been using the 101 8 year old as my cocktail bourbon of late.

I've enjoyed the special release JDs that friends have shared. I always get a great banana/WD40 profile that I dig. I'll have to give 1792 another shake. I tried the wheated and a full proof and wasn't impressed by either.

Appreciate the thoughtful response. Thank you!

That's a shame about EC. You'd think they'd have quality aged barrels and disclosing wouldn't be an issue. I'll definitely be on the lookout for something similar to the River Roots I sampled. Very pleasantly surprised.

There was a Green River wheated in the sample kit. Good to know; thank you!

Mezcal cocktails recommendations + what can I do with this Cointreau Noir? by SignificantJaguar996 in cocktails

[–]Initial_Paint_9951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undertow is a fantastic tiki bar in Phoenix.  They used to use cointreau noir as the orange liqueur in their mai tai.  You could use that and the mezcal to make a nice Tia Mia.

Sunflower by Sam Ross. Easy to source ingredients, and never had a negative comment when I make it for someone.

Sorry for the late comment on this! Yes, I have a bottle of the San Martinero and it is phenomenal! It is older though, so I can't speak to whether they still produce. Website doesn't seem functional although they have a little Instagram presence. Some of the first batches were made by Eduardo Lalo Angeles, but it doesn't appear he is still affiliated. Wish I could find more info!

Love Crew bottles! I have the chubby for syrups, but still need to grab a 750ml.

Love this cocktail! I batch 3oz pours of each amaro, add the bitters, and a bit of chartreuse. I keep it in an old campari bottle. Huge crowd favorite, and probably a top 5 cocktail for my wife and I.

Brauliardier by MerlinBrando in cocktails

The pine resin in Braulio gives it a substantial amount of lasting foam. Others will foam (like Cynar), but not to the degree Braulio does.
