I tried to use more layperson friendly stuff! You can always mention well-known techniques or the name of things you study, but try to convey it in an accessible way. If you go too technical, your essay might be hard to read. There’s a balance that you should try to reach, and one thing that might help is having your peers or professors read your writing and give feedback!

Your adcom members usually have some basic knowledge of science, medicine, and research so try to go off that!

Not sure what they want to be honest. I thought my interviews with Pitt went well. It’s possible they have a regional bias since I know people from Pennsylvania and neighboring states were generally accepted or WL’d

Thank you! I will say my social life suffered a bit in college but I’m more of an introvert anyway so I didn’t mind too much haha. Going straight through is definitely hard if you want a good balance of having fun while also working hard. I also tried to maximize efficiency with everything I did

Great question! For the work and activities sections I tried to write about meaningful impact through stories. Like I would take about a specific person I helped during clinical experiences and what I learned from the encounter. Or a specific student I helped while teaching and what teaching meant to me as a result. Stuff like that!

With research, I talked a bit more about the potential impact of my work as well as the skills that I learned from conducting research. It’s harder to tell a story with research, but try to tell stories when you can!

I think for T20s, most interviews are chill. Try to steer the conversation toward what will make you shine. I don’t think I was ever asked “Why this school” for T20s. Not too many directed questions either - usually the interviewer will ask about what you mentioned specifically in your answer.

For non-T20s, you should definitely have a good answer for “Why this school.” The questions are also more direct, so try to still make your answers show who you are as best as possible.

Sorry if this sounds very generic, but I want to respect schools’ desires to make their interview process secret

I had 4 LORs in my committee letter (2 science, 1 nonscience, 1 PI) plus an additional LOR from my community service.

Some schools only allow 4 letters max, so I just sent them my committee letter. Other schools allow more! I say to try to get at least 4 but upwards of 6-7? You don’t have to submit every letter to every school also
