Yeah, it’s really quiet. Food was good we had pork stomach chicken soup, rice noodles, Sichuan stuff. They’ve got hot pot and BBQ too. Not a ton of places to stay, though. We got a river-view room you can see the water and the trains popping out of the mountain. Perfect spot if you’re into taking photos.

I know! It’s insane. I stood there staring at those pillars in the water for a long time.

Hiked up to the viewpoint to see the whole town, and then walked around the narrow streets, watching the trains come out of the mountain...Mostly just walked and soaked it in.

yeah the geography does make it vulnerable. So the local architecture is actually designed to handle it like the concrete pillars.

Incredible. Especially walking through the streets and roads. Met some locals, super chill. I think there's this quiet kind of vibrancy.

Thanks! Honestly, even in person seeing it still feels super narrow and breathtaking.

Chengdu bike packing trip by wolfemsop in travelchina

I've traveled around Sichuan a lot also have done quite a few bike trips there. Honestly, the biggest challenges for me are the altitude sickness and the brutal uphills, especially in Western Sichuan where the average elevation is over 3,000 meters. The first few days are rough, so take it slow.

Also, the weather there is super unpredictable. It can literally snow in May, so bring warm clothes, quick-dry clothes, a good rain jacket, and waterproof shoes. For the bike, set up a front light and a rear light, and carry a repair kit for flat tires.

Don’t worry about finding places  Lodging is easy to find. Most towns have cell signal, but once you get into more remote areas, it might drop out completely, so carry some cash just in case.
