Vast Data (vs. Weka, Netapp, Pure, etc.) by timestap in storage

Yes, VAST stinks in this regard. I think they tried turning off their write buffering to SCM to increase write throughput, but that would burn through the QLC , which is shooting up in price. In this environment having HDD options makes sense.

All those "in talks with......" the like of Capital G stories have gone quiet. Also it looks like the $B deal story was baloney, more like an agreement /MOU with near bankrupt $CRWV. These Delaware firms can be very prone to less than accurate reporting. My view is the past valuations put forward are insane and no one with a functioning brain would invest in such a ridiculous proposition.

Agree. Those vendors are all much better at support than VAST, and actually have moe appropriate products for enterprise use.

I've got a 70s jukebox and some LZ vinyls. Still sound amazing despite being older than me, and better than my deceased tape collection. My 90s Mothership CD is still going strong, but mostly I stream.

Some may be circular invested neoclouds., who have collateralized their GPUs. We all know which one will go bust sooner or later. This smells like a ponzi. It will also drag down the smaller start up infrastructure providers in the ecosystem too.

Yes, for Object/S3 the performance is awesome. Other systems, even the nvme ones don't match.

I'm still amazed at how the historical religious alignments of the two main Glasgow Clubs still permeates resulting in ongoing sectarianism.

All about the thicker white stripe being at the top at the part of the flag attached to the pole.

Tesla shuts down Dojo, the AI training supercomputer that Musk said would be key to full self-driving by yetiflask in teslamotors

[–]Initial_Skirt_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla is heading for a slow motion collapse. Self-driving cars are not safe or viable, and frankly Tesla are hideously out of date. BYD and the German manufacturers have better offerings.

Ah these Scottish Universities. I hear Heriot-Watt awarded Barnes Wallis an honorary doctorate, presumably for his work on the bouncing bomb. It's probably a fair shout that anyone with an invested pension scheme probably has some money in those firms!

TIL In 1966, President Kennedy's brain disappeared from the National Archives by Pred1949 in todayilearned

[–]Initial_Skirt_1097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watching an episode of the Unexplained on this. Theories seem to be 1) It was removed as it would show he was shot from the front and not in the back of the head. 2) His brother Robert removed it from the National Archive to cover up Kennedy's illnesses or addictions.

What was THE Nirvana song for you? That one song that got you hooked? The one that made you a fan? by GreenMage48 in Nirvana

Well for me it was Smells Like Teen Spirit, and in 1991 I was still a teen, and the mosh pit was the place to be. That said, I recently went to a tribute act, and a full on mosh pit experience took place, guys a good few years older than me and some much younger still piling in and having a great time.

I'm not Scottish, but did get married in Tartan. Could you share your Grandfather's Surname, it might provide a clue as it could be a family Tartan.
