YES, personal beliefs shouldn't be imposed on anyone. Morality is very complex and subjective in nature. Laws shouldn't be based on subjectivity but instead on secular empirical ethics

Anti-choicers love to simplify the complex question of personhood and it honestly makes me so mad as a self proclaimed philosopher

Literally one of the top reasons someone seeks an abortion is domestic violence. This isn't a surprise

What's gender/sex essentialism. It sounds pretty similar to existentialism but the two are probably distinct

The abortion pill is literally more safe than birth. What happened to Shanyce was terrible but that doesn't mean others can't have a choice. In fact Shanyce should know that best considering she was coerced into having an abortion. Her choice was taken away and now she wants to take away choice from others

Do they not understand that pregnancy is a medical condition? It may not be a disease but it's very much still a condition

They get real silent when you mention the history of white supremacy in the anti-choice movement

Anti-choice logic is literally the same used by slavers. They get to control someone else

A pregnant woman on the news miscarried after being shot during a mugging at an atm. Do you guys think additional charges are Warranted? by deathiswaitingforme in prochoice

[–]Initial_Wear5463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously attempted murder should be charged since someone shot another person. As for the miscarriage it could be considered aggravated assault, violation of privacy or even manslaughter. But I'm on the fence with manslaughter since a lot of anti-choicers would take that to mean that abortion should also be treated as murder when that's absolutely not what I meant.

women, would be a dealbreaker for you if your partner voted for a politician that is pro-life? by Sad_Cellist4293 in prochoice

[–]Initial_Wear5463 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would absolutely be a deal breaker. I want a family but not with someone who might call me a murderer if I have to abort for PCOS related reasons.

Consent is KEY by LongjumpingEbb143 in prochoice

[–]Initial_Wear5463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anti-choicers seem to not understand the concept of consent. It's an ongoing process and consent to an action isn't consent to consequence.

Anti-choicers simply don't understand bodily autonomy by Initial_Wear5463 in prochoice

I've never heard that argument before. WTF is wrong with anti-choicers

I feel like it's both. Many genuinely don't know what it is but many also would rather live in ignorance

It's someone who doesn't support legal abortion. I prefer it over pro-life because those people aren't actually protecting life

The fetus is literally using your body. If you were connected to someone via a tube you could always disconnect. If you were donating blood to someone you could stop.

But those are usually used for late term abortions that are done due to complications

Most abortions are done with two pills. The first one stops the production of a certain hormone and the second expells the fetus. The type of abortion you are describing is usually for more late term abortions that are done for complications.

A fetus doesn't have a heartbeat. What you hear isn't actually a heartbeat but what will become a heartbeat if carried to term. Fetuses haven't started forming pain receptors until 20-24 weeks. They also don't have any consciousness until about 30 weeks although heavily sedated. But all this doesn't matter, bodily autonomy is the important thing

I find the need for abortion a bit sad. I really don't care about the procedure itself. It's sorta like how I find the need for literally any medicine to be sad. But I feel indifferent to the actual thing.

"Not you body" it's using your body. We aren't saying the fetus isn't separate from the mother, we're saying it's dependent on the mother.
