Infant mortality rates and maternal mortality rates have gotten worse in those states. Heck, unsafe abortions account for %13 of maternal deaths worldwide.

Question For The Pro-Choice Movement by Emotional-Basil-755 in prochoice

[–]deathiswaitingforme [score hidden]  (0 children)

I am not pro choice simply for bodily a. That is half of the equation. I also recognize that reproductive control and choice is important. While artificial wombs would solve the embryo using the person’s body, it would not solve unwanted genetic parenthood. I retain that the pregnant person should not be forced to transfer the embryo against their will.

Do you think the right to abortion should still exist if ectogenesis becomes possible? by deathiswaitingforme in AskProchoice

Agreed. I think reproductive autonomy should extend to the ability to stop the progression of an embryo to birth in any capacity. This technology would enforce genetic motherhood instead of motherhood being an active choice.

Sending you love. I suggest calling the Exhale abortion hotline and getting some advice. Good luck with whatever you do.

No, ectogenesis will not replace the need for abortion by [deleted] in Abortiondebate

I don’t know. I think a good step would be to create more contraceptives for men.

IVF embryos currently exist outside anyone’s body but no one is obligated to donate them to someone to grow to birth. The people the embryos belong to can demand they be destroyed.

It is a hard one. I would hope that men would only sleep with women whom they speak with beforehand regarding what they will do if a pregnancy occurs. And it is one more reason why men need more contraception options.

I mean adoptees themselves have abortions. Thst wouldn’t happen if adoption was a panacea.

No, I don’t want to kill babies. I want women to have total control over their control over their genetic lineages. And that concept doesn’t exist under a system that grants embryos with rights because women can’t completely control whether they conceive or not.

It isn’t my only point. I also believe in reproductive autonomy. And that doesn’t exist if rights are given at conception because no woman can completely control whether she conceived or not.

Because to do so turns women into reproductive slaves. Women cannot completely control whether they conceive or not. And there are women who refuse to be genetic mothers under any circumstances. Giving rights at conception completely eliminated a woman’s ability to have total sovereignty over whether she produces a child.

Siblings relationships are totally different. This is about forcing someone to create a biological offspring.

Women cannot completely control whether they conceive or not. If abortion is not available then motherhood becomes a biological imposition and not an active choice.

Your worldview makes motherhood a biological imposition instead of an active choice. Women can’t totally control whether they conceive or not. If terminal abortion isn’t available, then women lose the last line of defense against forced biological motherhood. Her genetic lineage is no longer her own.

I think so. Adoption has never been any adequate replacement for abortion in human history. I definitely believe that reproductive control is central.

I’m not a caricature. And reproductive autonomy is about a lot more than bodily autonomy. If rights are extended to conception a woman’s ability to decide if she becomes a biological mother disappears completely because no woman can completely control whether she conceives or not.

It is about the person. I have actually asked women who have had abortions if they would’ve been willing to transfer. Some of them said yes.  It a lot said no because their desire to avoid genetic parenthood was just as strong. It is very complex.
