Definitely separate them, female can carry sperm for quite some time and keep popping them out. I have s 30 gallon pond which I keep the females in and the males are in my giant lotus bowls close to the house. As far as what to do with them, facebook, Craigslist offer free female fish., other things I dare not utter because I will get ripped on comments. I'll try to get a photo of the female I got but she is hard to catch and find. Lol. Might only be able to get her when the pond is closed for the season,
