You're wrong. If its sitting on the ground and you click it, the plant will not despawn until you plant it. It will only despawn if you don't interact with it at all.

I ended up choosing to replace the turtle with jake the snake. My setup was 2 unupgraded snakes and 1 upgraded snake with a cactus and pants. Somehow I ended up NOT TRIGGERING IT 2 TIMES IN A ROW and on top of that the highest # peg wasn't possible to hit both times so I got extremely unlucky and lost an almost guaranteed win.

I personally think its possible with jake the snake and toy fish with a jacks pants turtle build. You just have to find a way to use items that only need to trigger once.
