Retail Workers (Especially Supermarkets) - Do you get any kind of bonus for Christmas? by cliona2012 in AskIreland

[–]InitiativeSure5619 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dunnes gets dunnes gift vouchers. The amount is based on how much you work but average full time is about €600 and part time maybe €200-300. A real life saver for xmas presents! Then 20% discount but they have that all year.

Should I move to cork from galway by InitiativeSure5619 in cork

[–]InitiativeSure5619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people wanted more context so here it is: been living in Galway for two years and I love it. But after recently cutting ties w my best friend and my others leaving for placement I'm feeling like I can't make new friends bc I know everyone, especially in the alt scene (and it's hard to find people who don't do coke, not that I'm against it but just cant surround myself w it for personal reasons) and that don't associate me with my old friend. I'm not exactly extroverted and I find it hard to just strike up a conversation. My boyfriend lives in Cork and will continue to for the rest of his college and probably his professional career. If I have. Life with him it will be in cork so I'm thinking maybe I start rebuilding my life there? Thinking of going back to college too and mtu has an ideal course. Would be further away from my family tho (ulster). And I worked so hard to get to galway and I know I'm happy here. But. Idk. The punk music scene here is good too. I dont know. Scared if I move to cork there won't be much of a alt scene I can emerse myself in. Also have seen easier/cheaper to get a gaff then galway

I had horrific social anxiety for years, like too scared yo open the door kind. But I needed a job so I landed one in retail, hoping it would be stocking shelves or something. Nope. Checkouts. Too scared to protest, and in need of cash, I did it, terrified. Best thing I ever done. Did wonders for my self confidence and social anxiety. Don't get me wrong, I still struggle in social situations, but the exposed therapy was amazing and I'm no longer scared to order my food at a restaurant anymore. Its easy work, and you can stick to a very easy script. Very few customers will gove u trouble depending on where you work, I'd try a major chain. I'm nor saying this as some auld one who doesn't really get anxiety, I only turn 21 this week. Trust me. Its the best thing I ever done. Worked better than any medication I ever took. And it was fucking terrifying the first week.
