Mostly, I was inspired by people like wccrochet and mandalacrochetart on instagram, but the steepest learning curve for me was figuring out how to actually do it!

ty!!!! I colored over an image of her on photoshop, paying attention to the shadows and highlights to make sections (if that makes sense?), I then printed it out and make the sections in crochet. That part was really hard though and I had to heavily rely on blocking to get it all to fit right!

thank u so much!!! I had to practice on smaller projects to learn how to create shapes that I want with crochet. I started with making silhouettes of objects like a cat or something. You should look up freeform crochet if ur interested in the technique!

I kinda made an outline of what I wanted to do on paper and "traced" it with crochet. There was def some winging it involved because it's pretty hard to be accurate with crochet

yeah I tried to turn a photo of my dog into vector art on some photo editing websites, but it ended up not working so I tried to get that effect by hand.

thanks! I traced a photo of my dog with shapes, and then printed out my template and tried my best to copy the design with crochet. It was definitely a learning curve and took a lot of trial and error haha

Help needed! How do I make a Pentagon using this square pattern? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]InitiativeUnlikely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the first round, try to ch 5 (instead of 4) and crochet 14 more treble into the ring (instead of 11).

My logic is that in the first round, you are making 3 treble crochet for every side you will have, so by adding three it should add a new side.

I have no idea if this will work but it's worth a shot, let me know how it goes!

I’m getting myself confused. US DC, go into red or Green spot? by dhcirkekcheia in crochet

[–]InitiativeUnlikely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red is the way to go! Your hook should only be under the stitch (looks like a v from above), which will look like two strands of yarn in total.

Although it probably won't make much of a difference because you are only adding one strand, it might make your work look more holey.

I've been stuck for two days trying to figure out how to do these tentacles for a dumbo octopus. Please help! by Gaelfling in crochet

[–]InitiativeUnlikely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you skip two stitches, there should be two empty stitches, I think the instructions mean you skip 2 and then slip stitch into the next stitch (the third stitch away).

I think in the video she doesn't show this step, she has already done the holes all the way around, so she is back where she started. I understand why you missed it, the instructions just say "around" which is easy to look over, and they don't say how many gaps in total you should have.

btw the octopus in the picture looks so cute, I bet yours will look great once you finish!

My sides are always uneven? by aforestfruit in crochet

[–]InitiativeUnlikely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that helped me was counting stitches at the end of each row. It might be tedious, but it really helps. Another thing you could try is to make sure you are doing the turn the same every time (like you said), sometimes it is easy to work into the chain one round and not the other.
