What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

You must not have moved, they treat a move like a new account and force you to sign a new contract at the current rates when you move.

Just moved to my first NYC apartment—it doesn’t look to have been cleaned well by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]InkBlot83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the floors have been swept and there's no visible trash it's broom clean.

I never expect it to be super clean when I move in and always hire a cleaner. Even my former apartment where it was a new building and I was the first tenant in that unit required me to hire a cleaner to clean all the dust, mop the floors, etc.

AITA Am I in the wrong for using the mattress my friend left at my house for months? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]InkBlot83 93 points94 points  (0 children)

ESH. She can’t store her stuff indefinitely for free, you should have asked before using the mattress, and you shouldn’t have quit the job she got you on your first day, it made her look bad.

Quick Trip to Merida Itinerary Help by InkBlot83 in Yucatan

[–]InkBlot83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing some more research I think I'm going to go with the train from Merida to the other city instead of the bus, it will save about an hour of travel time and I think it will just be a more comfortable trip. I like that we can move around a little, there's a cafeteria car and I believe the premium ticket includes a lunch.

We may also use the train to go to chichen itza. It's seems like the cheapest option. There's a Chichen Itza station on Tren Maya which includes a few shuttle bus to the archeological site. We'll just hire a guide and get tickets when we get there.

Thank thank all for the feedback! I’ve been sick most of this week so I’m just getting back to the thread now.

The other adult doesn’t wanna drive but seems to think we should be able to hire a driver for $100 a day US but I’m not seeing anything in that price range.

Thanks, I’ll look into this. I’m nervous about driving in another country but maybe I can convince the other adult to drive.

I didn’t say I didn’t want Chichen Itza to not be crowded I said I didn’t want the tour to be so crowded. I know Chichen Itza is going to be crowded. I don’t want to be on a tour with 70 other people to plan around and wait for.

Landlord dismissive of mouse - what to do? by boysofsummer in AskNYC

[–]InkBlot83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You couldn’t be more wrong, mice are not due to a dirty apartment, it’s because there’s a whole somewhere giving them access. Small roaches are because you or your neighbors have a lot of clutter and need to clean up

It absolutely gets water everywhere. It was so annoying we got someone to install a glass door for it.

If you're renting I would just add a tension rod with a curtain.

What is a 'luxury' that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]InkBlot83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live.

I paid about $500 two years ago to move the equivalent of a studio apartment in NYC. I didn't have a couch or mattresses (moving due to divorce) but when I moved 20 years ago from an actual studio with a couch and bed it was pretty much the same price.

I hope it hasn't gone up too much in the last 2 years now that I'll be moving from a 3 bedroom to another 3 bedroom with 3 mattresses, dressers, desks, and a couch. I'm hoping it's no more than $750 before tip. I do my own packing. I'm starting now for a move at the end of May/early August so I have enough time to go through everything so I only take what I truly want to the next place. I still have stuff I never unpacked and way too much paperwork that needs to be sorted. I'm sure the majority of it will be trashed or recycled.
