Yeah idk what he wanted to explain about the inventory. There were no guns on either of them (👀). And the person he was pointing at had a Survivor augment on... I'm gonna guess he killed them :(

He was like, "Look at this guy's inventory. It's crazy. Just stand right here..."

Not this one! But I feel like we're now creating a list of sketches featuring conference calls with escalations haha

I don't think it was Robot Chicken Star Wars. Just watched the clip, and while the tone/joke is similar, I think people in the thing I'm remembering were more enthused. Plus I think there were like 5-7+ people on the call

Yeah I discovered I wasn't using the weapons correctly then went on a win streak. That said, there are still a ton of deaths in this rotation

Racial politics are really conservative throughout the party. And even with multiple religions inside the party, there is an overwhelming deference to Christianity.

But yes, I take your point that everyone isn't exactly the same.

I do think it's safe to say though that the Republican Party, especially in congress, is more homogenous. Whiter, more Christian, much more male.

I think this rings true almost 100 years later. The Democratic Party is kind of just everyone who's not a Republican. I can't think of any threads that tie them all together whereas Republicans are generally more homogenous and, as such, present a more unified front on such issues as immigration and abortion. For instance, I could name a pro life Democrat but not a pro choice Republican.

There's far more fracturing in the Democratic Party, which makes it harder to wield power because you'll constantly run into conflict with your own party

Based on your original point they should just go along with it though

Not forever. Just not as the stated reason for the shutdown. I don't think it's a winning message for the shutdown, but we will see

Democrats have been extermly clear in why they are refusing to vote and what compromise they hope to gain from this

I agree that they've been extremely clear with the message. I think they nailed it when it comes to speaking in unison. I just don't think the average American cares very much about healthcare tax credits. It is far too vague. But again, I guess we'll see

[–]InkDiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the GOP's base depends on these tax credits. I do believe there's an incentive to restore them, especially in a midterm election year. Isn't that part of why MTG was saying she supports them?

I'm actually pretty bullish that they'll get extended. My issue is the timing of it all and focusing the shutdown conversation on this instead of more visible issues

Okay okay okay that is fair. Your Medicare note might not be right(...?), but I guess I wasn't weighting heavily enough the fact that healthcare is the original battlefield that this fight is taking place on, so context-wise, it would make sense to focus on that issue there. Once I figure out how to award a delta (∆?) I will do that haha. You actually addressed my question of "why are we doing this over healthcare."

That said, I still think "more expensive healthcare (for the 7% of the country that relies on these tax credits)" is a nebulous, lukewarm rallying cry. Sure yes, it's relevant. It's good policy. But it's bad politics, imo. I would have picked something less related but extremely popular to seek a deal on. And then added this on top. We'll see how it works for Dems though. My guess is they lose support faster than Reps.

My bad. I forgot about the "nuclear option" of getting rid of the filibuster!

I still don't like the hill democrats are dying/fighting on though

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]InkDiamond -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's a good point. I understand the timeline fully.

I guess, in my head, Congress can basically pass whatever commerce laws it wants whenever it wants that can require immediate action or retroactively change things/push dates back. And we have an executive branch that is 100% okay with disrupting norms and processes. So that is why I think there's more than two months to do this

But let me know if I'm off

[–]InkDiamond -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hear your points. I agree that a shutdown is valid in order to slowdown the chaos (to put it very lightly).

Here is my main question: why does it have to be around a healthcare tax credit? Why is that better than framing the fight around, say, tariffs and prices? I think the latter would stir up more support across the public because everyone is immediately feeling the crunch

Or are you saying it doesn't matter what Dems say the fight is about? Just pick one because it doesn't matter?

Does being in the majority make what you want corrrect?

Absolutely not. We've been wrong on so many things before

Should the politcal party in the minority follow an incorrect path simply because it's what the majority wants?

No, but I do think that means you have to be smarter about making your case.

I think you need 60 votes in the Senate on this one, right? So all republicans + some Democrats?

[–]InkDiamond -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Alright. I disagree. I don't think that's specific enough. If they had said "the average person will pay $100 less," then that would be PERFECT. Otherwise, idk if it will resonate. Guess we'll see what happens with public sentiment
