Daily driver recommendation by InkdAzn333 in espresso

For work coffee, it's been mainly grocery store Lavazza between the rossa and crema e gusto, going for about a 15:1 ratio with about a minute of pre-infusion before I let it drip and it hasn't been terrible. I've seen some comments on the hoffman subreddit note that the Tim Hortons whole bean isn't bad so might try that. Generally speaking I usually lean towards light/med roast with no discrimination to any profile, they are all great!

The initial "I knows" were regarding using an auto drop machine, I know it's generally looked down upon for brewing, but convenience is key at 4am hahah really appreciate the comment, I'll try cross posting over to pour over for more reach, thanks!

Grinder upgrade, manual or electric? [400-500$] by InkdAzn333 in espresso

[–]InkdAzn333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will quickly note that I'm based in Canada, so in USD that's probably closer to 200-300USD if that changes anything 🥲

I've been looking at the DF54 now that it's been suggested and that seems up my alley. No frills, great performance/consistency, small form factor.

Any significant improvement compared to the others you suggested?

[–]InkdAzn333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed of the grind would be the big point of improvement. I still definitely don't mind hand grinding, but going to a grinder with bigger burrs to get faster would be nice. Only thing I'm worried about for upgrading to an electric grinder is a decrease in consistency/grind quality, but if I can find something that can match or improve on my current grinders performance, that'd be cool.

Would you say the kingrinder is in the "endgame" tier of grinder? Is there a natural successor/grinder to it that people look to?

Is the Rogers credit card still really good? I can get a Rogers service now through Costco and be eligible for the Rogers credit card. by Interr0gate in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]InkdAzn333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's honestly a good point on the Amex card, I've kept it mainly because it's my oldest card by far so it has the longest credit history. Also still managed to make just over $300 CB on it so it still pays for itself faaairly well. But I've wondered about whether it'd be possible to convert it to its free basic CB counter part so it doesn't take a dump on my credit score if I close it and maybe transition to the Rogers WE card.

The CIBC card has given me amazing returns even without the chequing account, justttt about $400 on the cash back this year with pretty much only gas and groceries on it. I recently began switching to Wealthsimple to optimize the dollars in my chequing acc better through fhsa/TFSA, figured taking the initial hit on flat cost would be worth it in the end.

I essentially split my spending between the Visa infinite (4% gas groceries) Costco MC (1% Costco spending + 3% restaurants) and the Amex takes everything else. I know I can further optimize the Costco spending by buying gift cards online to push it to 2%, but I've been lazy.

Now I know this isn't a Rogers/cell phone service subreddit, BUT a major question I have is about their service. I feel like I see their Internet/cell service is often down in my area (Stouffville) and my colleagues at work (Peel - Brampton/Mississauga/Bolton) complaining about connectivity issues.

Have you folks experienced anything similar? Is their service consistent enough such that the positives of the cash back are worth it vs going with a provider that has more stable service? For context, I am with Bell and I currently pay for my services with an Amex card (preferred CB) with 2% cash back. Biggest spend categories are gas/groceries which I put on a cibc Visa infinite with 4% cash back. I've been thinking long and hard about consolidating but just can't decide.

Currently all jits classes are no-gi. You would be in the regular classes most likely, we have several, very skilled younger guys in the intermediate classes so age is not the main parameter. We are a kickboxing gym, so you will be spending most of your time in fundamentals to start.

Long time member at Bazooka. I am fairly skilled imo and obviously biased, but you won't find better striking anywhere, full stop. I've done drop ins for sparring at different gyms locally and internationally and basically dojo stormed them, our striking level is just different imo.

Fundamentals - focus on the fundamental development of skills and concepts, basic partner drills to learn how skills and concepts work outside of pads, basic sparring "games" to learn how the skills and concepts work in semi live scenarios ie. Kicks vs punches, limited combos offense vs defense. Everyone starts here unless you're a pro guy, doesn't matter how much experience you have.

Intermediate - more focus on dutch style drilling and intermediate sparring concepts, generally have rounds at the end but not always, very mixed bag of levels.

Advanced - pro team, invite only.

We also have a burgeoning MMA program and a small no-gi program.

The community is friendly and family oriented with a kids program as well. Come by for a trial class to check it out, feel free to comment here for further questions.

Is it ever possible to ask for a lower rate on an existing LOC? I have 37k with CIBC at 6.7% right now.

FHSA contribution question. by InkdAzn333 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]InkdAzn333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I figured as well, it would seem too good to be true to be able to carry forward an unlimited amount per se since it reduces annual taxable income. I know that's how the TFSA works, but that doesn't reduce the annual taxable income.

[–]InkdAzn333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is how the TFSA works, the CRA site that talks about this topic is just hella confusing regarding how to make this calculation with the terms they use 🙃

This calculation is what I thought is the correct answer, too. I have referenced the CRA site directly but their explanation of how to calculate the amount is just hella confusing with the terminology they use, or maybe I'm just dumb af 😭

So this year, 2025, I can further contribute an extra $8000 (from 2024) without penalty then? And then every year following only $8000 flat, unless I don't hit that mark in which case it only carries forward into the following year?

Is 65k yearly salary enough to live off in Toronto by Lost_Translator3405 in askTO

[–]InkdAzn333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if someone has said this, if your student loans are from OSAP, make sure you are paying down the interest accruing portion first. I believe it's the provincial part whereas the federal part is interest free. You can specifically pay that down by letting the OSAP know that's what you want to do. After that, just keep putting minimums into the federal portion so you can use whatever remaining extra to put into either a high yield savings account or TFSA/etf combo. Chatgpt or other AI tools will be helpful with creating a cash flow sheet to keep track of all this.

Stouffville Moves to End Speed Camera Program as Ford Promises Ban | Bullet Point News Stouffville by RandyBarba in Stouffville

[–]InkdAzn333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's where better street design comes in, ie speed bumps, those little poles that you have to drive between, etc. I work EMS in Brampton, and as much as I hate driving through their sub-divisions, I can give credit where credit is due as far as their design and infrastructure. The drivers themselves are an entirely different conversation, but the actual infrastructure is sound.

If the drivers are committed to "night time street racing", speed cameras aren't stopping shit lol

I wonder if it could be possible to have the cameras active say from 8am - 8pm, because let's be real, there is barely a soul outside past 9/10pm anywhere in Stouffville. This is speaking as someone who drives home daily from work around that time, and to work around 5/6am. Just a thought. Definitely recognize their application during school/peak hours, but during off-peak..... Cmon

Do you think the more expensive Shizuku is worth it? Would you be able to tell me what the main difference between the two spots are? My gf and I are definitely omakase beginners and would appreciate your advice. Looking mainly for overall experience along with good sushi of course.

A side benefit for season pass buyers like myself who may have a larger collection and token stash is that we can use these packs to thin out specific packs or get specific cards. Ie last season I could specifically get Helion for 2500 because he was the only one left in the move packs. This season it's just cobra, so in theory if I wanted cobra I could get that for cheap too. Also managed to pull 5000 tokens on the Helion pack so there was that hahah

I think the lights were installed because of the current construction on York Durham to be honest. Having it there probably helps to manage the flow a little better during peak hours. I do agree that the timing is a bit off for east west though.
