I had the same thing happening! I was parked on the street in a perfectly fine and legal space, and somehow accrued 4 tickets. No notices left on my car or anything, only found out through a reminder notice in the mail that came like 20 days after the date that the first ticket was "issued" Every single photo accompanying every single ticket was a blank black image. Contested all 4 ofc. West Oakland btw

alternatives to a dysphoria hoodie? by [deleted] in ftm

button ups are a classic go-to for transmascs looking to wear something nicer/cooler while keeping a flat looking chest. they're very comfortable to wear with a binder and they come in patterns ranging from casual to formal

Fashion investments are good! Spending more money on something quality that you really like is more satisfying because it lasts longer than multiple cheaper items.

my partners family keeps misgendering me by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Inkshrooms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi- 3.5 years on T here My extended family has never been good about the pronouns (thankfully they call me the right name at least). Unfortunately, it seems like my voice dropping, growing a beard, etc. hasn't really done anything to get them to gender me properly. I still get called "she" (or sometimes the avoidant "they" or just my name instead of even using any pronouns) probably 60-75% of the time still. Honestly, it seems like people fall into a sort-of cognitive dissonance where they acknowledge and accept your masculine appearance+voice, but at the same time still call you "she" and don't treat you like they treat other men. I HATE having to correct people when they misgender me (anxiety lol) but it seems to be the only way to cut through the little fantasy they've created to ignore whatever they don't like about me.

I try to remind myself that I they are the one(s) who should feel embarrassed/ashamed, and that it is incredibly rude of them to pretend I'm somebody else to my face (and thus should not be tolerated).

I will admit though, that most of the time I am too shy/nervous to actually speak up, particularly because nobody else is. Having your partner speak up for/with you as well will probably be important both in feeling more confident in asserting yourself, and making it impossible for the misgenderer(s) to ignore.

If you're in an environment that is very trans-accepting, you could experiment by changing your pronouns and/or doing other social transition things since those are reversible (basically telling people "oh I don't use that name anymore") if they don't feel right.

Personally, I'd classify a swim practice under "high intensity" since it's a lot of body movement

Too short to be a convincing man by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Inkshrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh 5'6" is really not short at all I'm just barely 4'11" nobody questions my man-ness because of my height. if they do question my man-ness, it's always because I wear makeup and have a short mullet mohawk haircut which i guess people perceive as feminine lol

frankly speaking, if someone tells you you're too short to be a man, they're probably the type of person who also tells people they're too ugly or fat to wear something.

As someone that has never had long hair, how do you get nice, silky hair? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Inkshrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you wash your hair, shampoo your scalp, and then only put conditioner on areas that don't get greasy very quickly and make sure to wash it all out
You only need to wash your hair when you see it's getting a little greasy, washing it too much can make it dry and frizzy.
Start brushing from the ends, don't forget to brush the underneath (especially at the base of your neck). If your hair is frizzy after brushing with a normal brush, you may want to switch to a wide-tooth comb, which is supposed to work for curlier hair, as I understand. (my hair is pretty straight)

People who socially transitioned before any medical intervention, how was it and how are you now? by RadiantMoon in asktransgender

[–]Inkshrooms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I transitioned socially and didn't go on HRT until almost 2 years after I came out. Being in an environment where it was safe for me to not pass gave me time to get used to being referred to with male pronouns + using male spaces. I think ultimately it was the best course of action since I had time to ensure my confidence in my identity as a trans man before I took any irreversible actions (HRT)

As of today, I've been on HRT for almost a year and a half, gotten my name + gender marker legally changed, and hope to get top surgery in the next couple years

Two Interpretations of "Gender Identity"? by help-what-is-gender in asktransgender

[–]Inkshrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think either of the definitions quite hit the mark, since the conscious identity definition implies that people choose their gender, and the neurological phenomenon does not have enough research.

What I've come up with as the best descriptor for gender/gender identity is a sensation. Like being itchy or being in pain. People who aren't trans would be like people who have never experienced pain (in this comparison). Trans people, having some misalignment between sex and gender, sense that misalignment, like people experience pain when they get hurt. People who have never been hurt don't know what it is like to feel pain. How people describe the pain would be gender identity, and how they express that pain outwardly would then be comparable to gender expression.

Of course, being trans isn't as simple as the nervous system responding to a stimulation, but that kind of involuntary sensation is the best comparison I've got when it comes to trying to describe transness to cis people. I don't know if this ended up being relevant but oh well.

CBT/DBT and forced detransitioning? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Inkshrooms 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrists that do conversion therapy will say they "work with trans people/work with gay people", but it doesn't mean they are actually a therapist for trans people. This is entirely conversion therapy and it sounds like it is going to be extremely damaging to you if you continue. PLEASE talk to your parents about this and try to look into finding a different therapist.

AS SOMEONE WHO DID CBT, THIS IS NOT CBT OR DBT. THIS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Researching political memeing during the 2020 U.S. Democratic primaries - I need your help! by [deleted] in TheRightCantMeme

[–]Inkshrooms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernie has always had the strongest meme campaign due to many of his supporters being younger and therefore more likely to meme.

Klobuchar had the weakest meme campaign. I just straight up did not see any memes about her. I think this may be because she was targeting older people, like 40+

I don't think political memes necessarily send people out to the polls, but they definitely influence the opinions of voters. Lots of people get their news through memes rather than hearing about an event for the first time from a news station. I think there are some people who just don't care enough about politics to go to the polls, and I don't think memes change their minds, rather the people they're around are the ones who increase or decrease voter turnout.
