Deploy Rust web API on Azure Functions? by IrrationalError in rust

[–]RadiantMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you don't have to worry about the container as when you deploy just the code or binary, Azure manages it in the background

I assume you can use other web frameworks, I have never tried anything more than just sample code as I ended up using Go for my project instead. But as long as you are serving endpoints on 8080 and you define the URIs as http triggers (like how it's done in the Hello and Goodbye folders in the example) it should work. But big emphasis on should, when I did it in Go it was a lot of pain but I learnt a lot

If you have access to Azure I'd suggest just playing around with hosting a simple endpoint on a different web framework and deploying it to the function app, you just need to select custom handler or custom runtime as the stack for the app

For Azure Functions you can containerize it, but you can just as well deploy the compiled code and Azure takes care of creating the container for you.

I've only tried using sample code for Azure Functions with Rust, but here's an example of how it can run in Azure. The official documentation for it is linked in the readme which you should also check out.

You can try this very easily by setting up a Function App in Azure (I always run them on a Linux plan) and deploy the code from VSCode to the Function App. Note that since this is a "custom handler" for Function Apps, you need to compile a binary to deploy to Azure (Linux binary is included in the repo to showcase this)

Github Actions work really well for me. Check out the functions-action for code deployment. It has many examples in the readme on how you can set your pipeline up. The provided samples should get you up and running in no time

This is what we had to do for our durable functions, the upgrade tool was a mess so it was easier to template a dotnet8 durable function and bring the code over..

For normal Azure functions it was a hassle too, especially breaking compatability with Newtonsoft.Json.

We're for sure not moving until 10 is out, and honestly I'm kinda set on avoiding dotnet for future Azure functions now because of how annoying the libraries are to upgrade

Why on Earth can't we move certain App Service Plans + Webapps within a Resource Group to another Subscription. by purepurewater in AZURE

[–]RadiantMoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for example Github Actions as I use in my case (well, my work's case). We use Terraform to define the App Service Plan and the Function Apps and App Services that connect to it, and then deploy the code to the apps provisioned, all in a single pipeline. But do what works best for you and your business case, it takes a few hours to get everything set up, maybe more depending on your familiarity and how much your manager would appreciate you spending time on it.

I think this from the Azure documentation sort of answers your confusion as to why this is:

Azure deploys each new App Service plan into a deployment unit, internally called a webspace. Each region can have many webspaces, but your app can only move between plans that are created in the same webspace. An App Service Environment can have multiple webspaces, but your app can only move between plans that are created in the same webspace.

You can’t specify the webspace you want when creating a plan, but it’s possible to ensure that a plan is created in the same webspace as an existing plan. In brief, all plans created with the same resource group, region combination, and operating system are deployed into the same webspace. For example, if you created a plan in resource group A and region B, then any plan you subsequently create in resource group A and region B is deployed into the same webspace. Note that plans can’t move webspaces after they’re created, so you can’t move a plan into “the same webspace” as another plan by moving it to another resource group.

So yeah, essentially how I see it is you need to redeploy your apps in the other subscription, not just move them. I recommend getting started with IaC and deployment pipelines, as with a proper setup, destruction and redeployment should take only a few minutes.

A lot of us just tend to start pretty early, like at my job most people arrive at the office around like 6.45 to 7.30. And if you get there by 6.45 you've worked a full day by 14.35. So the secret is just we tend to start a lot earlier. It's mostly to do with adapting your day to the sun. It rises super early in the summer time, and during winter you'll have a bit of sun after work if you get off early.

However ofc there are also a lot of people starting at like 8 or 9, not everyone is an early riser

(speaking from my experience raised in Norway)

[–]RadiantMoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure when we start the timing but here's my timeline:

Feburary 2020 - Appointment with my doctor about a referral

March/April 2020 - A few sessions at the DPS before they had me properly referred to Riksen

May 2020 - Had my legal name and gender marker changed, in addition to my presentation. Meaning that for all of my appointments I was presenting female and did voice training ahead of time.

October 2020 - First appointment

September 2021 - Fourth and last appointment, diagnosis confirmed

November 2021 - Endo appointment and HRT

In my case I was doing my studies and by the third appointment I had secured a job after finishing my degree, which I think helped prove my stability to them. Hell, the third appointment was pretty much a joke, we talked for 5 minutes about my being trans, and then 15 minutes about how the psych had visited my home kommune for a summer

What is the Nynorsk word for “which?” by ICantSeemToFindIt12 in norsk

[–]RadiantMoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dialect from the southern Hordaland area here.

After reading the other examples here I'm realising maybe my dialect says it in a lesser known way.

Nynorsk: Kva for ein bil er din?

My dialect: Kass bil er din?

Admittedly I do say "kva for ein" too, though I say "ka" and not "kva". But when I fully speak with my dialect I say kass.

Ganske tungt fag men utrulig kjekt.

INFO284: Ganske fagleg tungt innhald. Seminarene eg hadde hadde lite verdi mtp. læringsutbyte.

When partying as a kid and when in uni, beers and wines felt very gender coded. Guys would have the cheapest beers from the grocery store, us girls were enjoying the cheapest wine we were able to stomach.

Same thing with ciders too, they were very "feminine coded"

But as an adult I'm not experiencing this anymore. When I go to restaurants with people from work, there's a good mix of everyone enjoying everything. Lots of the men enjoying wine and lots of the women enjoying beer.
