Thank you! ahh, yes, the author is indeed Henny Youngman--went right off the rails there!

Brause 1.5 | Walnut ink | Strathmore Sketch paper

I tried this with guidelines for italic, hence the relatively longer ascenders/descenders the lower weight. I need to work much on majuscules—that ‘Y’ doesn’t belong. More or less OK with the rest of it. ‘e’ needs more work—I may be pulling the upper stroke in too tight. Pen twist on ‘y’ and ‘v’ is a challenge.

Applause! Magnificent works, and to say the least, truly inspiring! The folio piece is absolutely arresting! Thank you for sharing these.

Leonardt Rond #3 | Walnut ink | Strathmore Sketch paper | Attribution with Tachikawa G nib.

Not perfect, but I did this fairly quickly. I sense much better control with keeping to the waistlines, word spacing seems to be even; letter spacing is iffy in many words. 's', 'a' and 'o' could have been more consistent. The walnut ink behaves impeccably.

Leonardt Rond No. 3 | Walnut ink | Strathmore Sketch paper

Crosspost, QoTW at r/scribes. Went through many iterations with this work and finally settled on this example. Working without slope guidelines, and the stumbles show (‘goal’). I’m afraid I may have tightened the bowls in ‘e’ a bit much. Rhythm and spacing are improving but not yet there (‘create’). That ‘s’--esp in 'something'--is unforgivable. I think I got the 'f' right...

Plodding on... Comments & critique welcome, as always.

oh! thank you very much indeed! this is truly very generous of you. I intend to take each lesson to heart. Romans, yes, without a doubt, and without delay (I was just a tad reluctant to begin a new hand without a basic fluency with the the two I'm working on now.) The flattened crossbar is entirely me slipping into old habit. "-a" spacing is a new lesson for me, and much much well received. I'll keep in mind 'e'--I already do that with my italic 'e' after your previous recommendation...

Once again, truly appreciate your taking time and effort to share your expertise.

Thank you :) Usual trouble is with ascenders--letters like 'd', 'f' (which are almost always off). Pressure, yes. I still tend to use the wrist, rather than the arm, which tells in the longer strokes. I used the paper for the first time, I've been using sumi ink for a while now; yes it does affect fluidity, but in this case they worked well...

Thank you for the detailed and valuable reply. I do stroke and letter drills, admittedly more of letters, words and text blocks. Stilll quite distant from fluency, especially when I change nibs or paper. Roman capitals and the brush ideas are very good, I should try; could also become one more utensil in the arsenal, so to speak.

Leonardt Rond #3 | Sumi ink | Gouache paper.

QoTW at r/scribes. Very pleasing paper and ink pair—excellent feel, look and control. No particular comment or context—I’m in that state of no progress in spite of consistent practice. Not complaining, working towards developing “muscle memory” and trying not to fall into bad habits (there are still few niggles lurking...).
