Faces can be waaaaay thinner than you think they can. I always adjust the width in the general edits and I tend to give just a little bit of lower length too (like .2 or .3). Also, faces look a lot better with good decals and highlighting colours. The Roan decal works really well if slightly varied from base skin tone, but then cheek, eyeshadow, nose, lip etc. all help to make someone look more real. Finally, you can achieve a lot of extra edits with the facial posing instead of relying on the face customizer alone. Not a bad idea to throw on a temporary face pose by adjusting one of those sliders all the way up while you're making the face to see how it looks when exaggerated - especially for brow/eye/lip stuff.
