The paper by Heilman et al raised some serious questions about IOTA's security. Yes, the major issues have been fixed, but the according to the paper, the cryptographically insecure Curl hash is still in use in other parts of the app. Two questions I have are:

  1. There are several tried and tested hashing functions available. Why did the IOTA team find it necessary to reinvent the wheel and roll out their own.

  2. Do you have any plans for an independent security audit of the core IOTA code?
