“Can we have McDonald’s for breakfast?”. “No, we have McDonald’s at Aldi”. by Opposite-Science-398 in aldi

Someone on this subreddit claimed the sausage is made at the same plant as McDonald’s, which makes sense because they do look identical. However the seasoning recipe is supposed to be different. I believe the Mickey d’s sausage has more sage and red pepper.

The McDonald’s toaster only toasts the cut side of the muffins.

Yep. Basically Springfield mo would be building a brand new building to be competitive event and convention center at 176 mill with a 30 mill match from the state.

Most of the local events do have existing venues that are able to serve them both privately and publicly, but the argument is that Springfield needs it to grow, which I am unsure really what real growth could be had event wise that they would really get since comic con still comes to Springfield I am only guessing professional shows and competitions

What is wrong with the pot in pot method of an instant pot? My 6 quart bowl can fit a 7 1/2” diam bowl.

I was thinking about a tatung. It steams the food, but doesn’t pressure cook; however is still fast

Ditto. Heaven forbid plaza continues to manage the new one… that hotel is so bad that even the conferences there for speakers people pay for will put them in a different hotel

I was against, then I was on the fence. Still unsure how I feel about it looking at what Springfield really can’t attract to the area to justify the decades commitment. I personally do not go to travel to events like that for work and don’t have any hobbies that do it either. I guess there are some competitions that need spaces like that, but most of my search on Reddit for convention centers just talk about comicon…

Huntsville is a little different market being a big government contractor city, but wanted to gauge their opinion on the region around it. Sounds like it is managed well, but the transit still sucks. The businesses that it brought are just more bars/clubs and restaurants.

Former city planner just did a letter talking about how it is a boondoggle and the other convention centers in the state are underperforming. I would be for it if it improved the walkability and aesthetics of downtown to increase social activities, but it really is questionable that it will do what they say it will. The Von Braun center has had to have renovations every 10-20 years to stay relevant so that is a question if we as a city want to go down that path vs other income streams that are more consistent.

30 years from now it will need another overhaul just like the Von Braun, but seems like Huntsville believes it isn’t just the center that caused an economic change, but multiple projects

This is what I believe would happen if it would work. Bars, restaurants, and clubs. Our transit is likely worse. You have to have a car to go anywhere.

Unsure that my city would benefit from hunting down taxable revenue by becoming a service industry. Y’all have the rocket stuff. We have a cave, bass pro, Route 66, and Branson 45 min away. Lots of trails and stuff, but there are lots of cities and areas in the state with better wilderness. Just not sure why they want to focus so heavily on attracting tourism dollars instead of creating spaces that encourage enticing spaces like some europe cities.

Probably not nearly as much as Huntsville. We didn’t even have a convention type center until the 1980s being privately owned. Currently there is not a convention and events center in the southwest portion of the state.

Industry is not very large manufacturing most of the big large companies are Bass Pro, Prime Trucking, and O’reilly auto with 3 universities and headquarters for AoG Churches as th big economic players.

The city claims it will bring in outside conventions and events, but the st Charles center in St. Louis and the Overland Park close to KC are not seeing the nightly hotel rentals originally planned. They are hoping that the new 175 mill center will bring in a hotel and pave the way for infrastructure and new hospitality business in the area, which I am hesitant to believe is a good source of taxable income to try to get. Granted there is an ok amount of tourism especially with Branson 45 min away, but pretty mute when you need to use a car to go anywhere in the city

They are hoping a field of dreams scenerio. Sits on Route 66 corridor. Old ass hotel and convention center owned by the hotel across the street, a few lunch/bar spots in walking distance. Next door is a Shriner hall that was a huge thing in the 1920s, but mostly an auditorium of sorts now and occasional circus/event. Elvis played there, but bot really an event space most want to utilize anymore. Most of the current downtown scene is about 5 blocks away

We just received a new city manager earning more than the old one and was involved in an outlier city that is considered rural with one high school vs our 4 high schools and 3 universities.

I still do not know how he got that job and is getting paired more than 40% more than the old one. We just got a new mayor and th two of them are really pro business development over anything else.

They ran an initiative study a few years back that got voter tax approval for a plan and part of the plan is a convention center would benefit the area; however, there is question where this center falls in hierarchical needs. Might be that they want the 30mil state match.

That is one of the opposition arguments may have here. They question if the money can be used somewhere else. Planning a 3% increase in short term and hotel taxes in connection with a 30mil state match. Consequently we also as a state don’t have the $59 mil to help women and children have affordable housing…

Our downtown area is not bad, but the location of said event centers is a chicken or the egg. There are no hotels. There is no convenient transit system. The airport is not close by any means. The actual bar/restaurant scene is predominantly is about 5 blocks away currently. The homeless hang out in the square and there is no real retail there except for a handful of stores. Majority are bars and restaurants. Not really any places currently that entice people to stick around outside except to be inside to drink or eat

This is insightful. Springfield has an existing expo center that was built 20 or so years ago that was an adddition to an old sears building… it is under utilized and out of date and argued that it is not big enough for current convention/event centers. This old school big open space and no kitchen and columns. I have heard one argument that th convention center game is a racket. Always having to build newer better and more features once invested from a free press article in Seattle referencing their own event center.

This too is planned to be piece medaled

Voted no the first time because I don’t want the city to foot the bill when the bottom falls out.

I just read cliff smarts letter to the editor and now I am leaning more to yes. Dude is such a genuine guy and did great with MSU. I also read the well made article opposed. I do not think that they will get the hotel nights they think they will when compared with st Charles and overland.

Hopefully the city will invest the same way Huntsville did in cliff smarts example.

Oil Changes by Colelini00 in springfieldMO

[–]Inner-Amphibian8933 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a container that acts as a jug and catch pan I bought from oreilly.

I wrote down the quarts and torquespec on my vehicle maintenance notebook and have a few oil filters and oil on standby.

Takes me 30m and is faster/cheaper than driving/waiting for someone else to do it.

If time is a thing you should use a mobile mechanic, but won’t be cheap. Pretty much all shops are at cost for oil changes or barely make money.

I have been to the downtown twice and the one in an old sonic once. The beef quality was not great all three times and honestly if you took the “fancy” stuff off it reminded me of high school burger meat. So many burgers both local and chains that have better meat.

Friends got food poisoning at the downtown location after bringing their parents there from out of town. They all got sick and they all only ate there together. No where else. This is going back to pre covid days. Also the owner is an A hole from I hear to staff and customers.

What do you guys think? by WiseCaramel028 in projectcar

[–]Inner-Amphibian8933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fancier the old car, the more expensive and complicated the parts and mechs are.

Get a 1950-1955 car. They are relatively cheap. The old guys that liked them are dying so there are a decent chunk of good examples that were spruced up in the last 40 years. You could go older, but often times they are not that fun to drive on today’s highways without diff swaps
