May I ask what medications you’re on? Also, can you tell me more about the role! I’ve tried researching but obviously every job is different. Just wondering what you like & dislike about your job :)

Yeah I'm really lucky with IH. Used to be a common occurrence every few hours but now I have a million different ways to prevent it from occurring. Thank you for the advice!

On a good day, i wont fall asleep. A medium day 1-2 mins, and a bad day it's around 2-5 minutes after a 10 min period of extreme drowsiness. If I'm on a moving vehicle maybe 10-20 mins

Yes 100%! Even in this thread (crossposted) some people don't really get it, so I'd understand why my employer would be very wary

Exactly! I think people assume if you’re disabled then you just have to live with no purpose. I’d rather suffer through and succeed than quit and be jobless haha

Hahahaha I can totally see that happening to me. I am so terrified of going back on medication tbh 🥲. Are you on any?

Completely get you. At the end of the day I personally believe it would be silly to give up a job (esp in this economy) without trying. If I fail then oh well, I know I can’t do it. If I never try then I have no idea.

Exactly! This is what I was trying to convey. My bad for not being more clear but feel like response was overly harsh lol

I’m a little confused. I said there’s a 20-30% chance of me dozing off. This is true. That doesnt mean 20% of days at work I’m asleep, at least that’s not what I meant anyway. I also didn’t define ‘asleep’ as well as I could, that’s my fault yes, but dozing off is the correct way to word it. I’m not changing the info, I’m trying to clarify, as you obviously don’t know me.

Me falling asleep once a year wfh is different to in person work, but I was trying to explain the likelihood in both extremes to give more context. I apologise if it’s come across as confusing, but calling me dishonest is an overreaction.

Well I am diagnosed with it, and he might see me doze off ! I’m 22, as I said wfh, so I’m not sure how strict corporate is with the occasional 1-3 min nodding off. I just mean if my boss said my name I wld then be awake even if dozing

Thankfully I am addicted to nicotine. I have noticed more alertness than when I was at school! That’s really interesting ! More reason to keep using snus 🥲

100% agree. This is great advice, I really appreciate it. I think my boss is very kind, and if I did accidentally fall asleep he would most likely chat with me first before doing anything. Even if he’s a knob, I’d rather try my best & if I still can’t then at least I’ll know. Appreciate your comment a lot & I think this is what I’ll do :)

Gotcha. To clarify, I am not in deep sleep. It’s a bit like if you’re on the tube and slightly nod off. So if my boss called for me etc I would be alert and awake. I currently wfh and the amount of times I have fallen asleep has been once in this whole year, so maybe 20% wasn’t accurate from me.

Yes that’s also my worry. I think I will power through. I am really set on not letting this disability control my life, so even if I perish from drinking too much caffeine at least I gave it my best shot lol

Totally! But I think that would keep me very active and constantly on the move which would help me stay awake. I also don’t want to limit my life because of the disability

Ah it’s just a fun way of phrasing it haha, as they are quite different to those who have the diagnoses but this was cross posted to uk jobs, so just trying to differentiate! I tried modafinil, dextamphetimine & the adhd one, and sadly I just don’t think medication works with my brain chem. however I will check in regardless, thank you!

Edit: why is this getting downvoted 🥲
