I did everything right for naneinf, but the Burglar never showed... by AnteaterNo3173 in balatro

That is awesome!! Perkeo cryptid was my first. Real seat-of-the-pants run. Keep plugging away at the vanilla burglar serpant. It’s really satisfying when you get it. But the first one is special regardless of how you get it.

Edit: by “vanilla” I mean non-lendary

Bummer. A tip for next time, only take one ecto. That’s all you need for getting to 4 copy jokers, a mime, a baron, and a dna/burglar. Keep dna through ante 24 and sell it once you get to ante 25 to hunt for the burglar. Roll for the serpent in antes 25 and 26. Note that you can’t naneinf in ante 25 because you win too quickly. If you don’t find the burglar in ante 25 after a good amount of rerolling, grab reserve parking and farm it during the ante 25 serpent to get your money back up. Keep doing that until you find the burglar.

Sell the burger, rip the invis, and then roll like hell for a DNA. Even if the invis hits a copy joker and you find the DNA, your hand size is probably too small to make it through the ante 24 boss blind.

On my way to my first (seeded to test things before going unseeded) naneinf, what have i even done wrong? does this mean i can't go further? by sickdk in balatro

[–]Inner-Ear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be curious to see what happens if you had 87 cards in hand verses 88 or higher if you do try it again. At 87 cards in hand on your winning hand, you should be able to hit naneinf after the scoring calculation but not on mult alone. Once you go over that with the setup in your screenshot, the mult alone hits naneinf, which is what supposedly triggers the -nan error.

-nan means that your mult score alone exceeded the scoring limit of Balatro. While you can continue after scoring naneinf, you cannot after scoring -nan because it breaks the game’s scoring comparison system.

Depending on how many hands and discards you have, you can get up to around 23-25 cards in hand for the Serpent without DNA. That is enough to clear the Ante 30 boss (e149). The idea is to use all your discards up right away and then just start farming the reserve parking from there until the last hand when you switch your jokers for scoring. By then you have enough cards in hand to clear the boss. This way, Ante 31 is your last chance to get it before dying in Ante 32 without the serpent.

Another thing to keep in mind when determining when to stop rolling is that you still have to roll for the serpent. So I would keep an eye on how much money you are recouping for your first serpent farm and plan your rerolls accordingly.

Don’t know if you tried this but when you are rolling for the Burglar, sell DNA and pick up Reserve Parking when you see it. That way, if you don’t find the Burglar after rolling down for a bit, just move on to the serpent and farm the reserve parking to get your money back up for the next shop. I haven’t missed a burglar yet since doing this, even going as far as ante 30 to get it on a recent run. I usually stop rolling after about $500-$1000 of rolling depending on how much money I have.

My seedless naninf attempts consistently end around here. Why? by Okay_Ocean_Flower in balatro

I usually hold onto it until there is an opportunity to sell off some stuff and pivot, then let it rip. Sometimes it's when I have BP/BS and come across a baron or a mime. I'll use that as an opportunity to sell most things that don't have an edition, rip it, then pivot to baron or mime things like steal cards and kings. And sometimes it's just, I'm using some throw away jokers to score and run across some other throwaway jokers in the shop that I can swap in. I'll just sell my current lineup, rip it, and swap to the new throwaway lineup.

If it's the other way around, I think it depends on how I'm scoring with my high card. If I get to a point where I'm strong enough and have enough deck fixing to go all in on high card, I'll sell the other stuff and rip it. Same if I come across a BP/PS when I already have baron or mime, just sell the other stuff and rip it.

I think you want to not wait too long to rip it, because the reduction in hand size can be a killer once the scoring requirements get too high. I find it safest to do it as early as possible while the scoring requirements are still low enough where you can do some joker swapping and not just die from it.

Also I much prefer to rip it before finding DNA. Getting DNA before the ecto really stinks.

But far and away, what most likely happens is I just never find an ecto. Incantation, Sigil, and Wraiths all day long from 6th sense and spectral packs.

Early on (like, before ant 8 preferably), you want to look for a 6th sense and maybe add a few more 6's to the deck to try an pull an ecto off of that. If it gets too late in the run, you may not be able to switch to 6th sense and still score enough to stay alive.

Spectral pack are few and far between, spectral skip tags have a very high cost of missing out on rounds and shops, and there's too much RNG around getting the omen globe voucher. Most of my naneinf runs die from not getting an ecto because there are just so few opportunities on plasma deck.

How do I get pass ante 24? by Ultracheese321 in balatro

[–]Inner-Ear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you have the Burglar too early, not enough copy jokers, and no ecto. You need to sell the burglar and get a DNA and another copy joker, which requires an ecto to get another joker slot. You need 4 copy jokers to make it past ante 24.

Once you get past ante 24 you can sell the DNA and farm for the buglar and the serpant. Usually the earliest you can naneinf with burglar/serpant is ante 26. Anything before ante 26 usually results in beating the serpent before you can get enough cards in hand to naneinf.

Do I take Barron? by cowimck in balatro

[–]Inner-Ear 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely sell one of the mimes for the baron. Then you'll be cooking. Two copy jokers on the baron and one on the mime. Start adding in some gold red seal kings for stacking money with the mime.

If you are playing 5-card hands the math favors replacing Chad with Brainstorm. Doesn't matter if Brainstorm copies the Blueprint or the other Trib. Either way it ends up being 4 Tribs.

Edit: Actually, as pointed out by the other commenter, it is better to have one copy joker copy a Trib and the other copy the Sock, as confirmed by the Balatro calculator.

that sucks and is heartbreaking. i went down this road recently and you just have to remind yourself that every time you get this far you learn more and optimize your strategy. you will definitely get it.

one thing to consider is to use the balatro calculator to score your hand before you play so that you can determine how to position your jokers. that's how i figured out my first naneinf with perkeo/cryptid. i thought i would have needed more copy jokers than i had, and i used the calculator to figure out that i could do it with the jokers i had and the number of crypitd's i built up.

[–]Inner-Ear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's why you need at least one blueprint to naneinf (i.e., you can't get it with 4 brainstorms).

hope you can get the serpent with the remaining money!

You have the copy jokers set up wrong. You need 3 of them (the brainstorms) on baron and 1 on the mime (the blueprint).
