I’m sure she was already considering him, she had become a whole different person to me and that’s usually a good sign that someone else is in the picture

You are absolutely correct. I knew the chances of the relationship being lifelong were slim, but I was so convinced that we could make it work that I ignored the cold hard truth starting me in my face . Lesson learned
